But academics is as well as important. http://blog.oureducation.in/top-colleges/commerce/
Surveys like the ones done by India Today are Metropolis centric. Are there no good colleges in the hinterland? The flaw in such surveys will have to factored by the readers. The St.Joseph's College, Tirchchirappalli, Tamilnadu is one of the finest colleges in the country. It was founded in 1845, even before the Madras Ubiversity and the Presidency Colleges of Kolkatta and Chennai were founded.(!!!) Their post gradutate departments are so well organised you can term them as one of the best in the country. The thradition of teachers has always been one of strong commitment, even today. But it caters to the needs of the people in the semi urban areas and hence not visible to Indai Toady. Incidently one APJ Kalam and one R.Venkatraman were alumini of this great institution.
Colleges dont turn ordinary guys into eminent personlitiese .For eg Dr Radhakirshnana did his his schooling in a village near madras. Can you say that school produced a great man.Great people bring name to their alma mater.
