Degree of comparison-
by sasindran poomadham on Jul 15, 2012 07:18 PM  | Hide replies

"the smarter" is wrong usage. It should be "the smartest" "The is a definite article and it shoud be used to denote one specific subject.

In the context, the usage the smarter is absolutely spot on.

'Rajul was the smarter of the two sisters.'

English Quiz

I studied in a vernacular Marathi medium school with primary education in ‘Municipality’ up to 7th standard. But yet I could come out with 15/15 score. The only reason is my English teachers taught me so painstakingly with English grammar books like ‘Tarkhadkar’ series that made my English much powerful. I just can’t make any grammar mistake!! Hats off to all my teachers!! I never repent of not studying in English medium school in my childhood.

If U take right efforts and work hard, no matter which medium U study, U will excel in that field! I’m very much pleased since U gave all credit to Ur teachers who have developed Ur English. Very good approach!!

Milind,

You only think your English is good but it is not.

Here's why >>

"But yet I could come out with 15/15 score."

Correction >> Yet I scored 15/15.

"that made my English much powerful"

Correction >>

That it improved my English.

There is no such thing as powerful English.

"I just can’t make any grammar mistake!!"

Correction >>

I just can't make any grammatical mistakes.

"I never repent of not studying in English medium school ....."

Correction >>

I don't regret not studying in a English medium school .....

"repent" does not apply in this case. Not knowing English is a disadvantage in some cases not a crime you should repent for.

Please refer to 'Wren and Martin' or other books written on the subject by British authors to really improve your English grammar not books written by a Marathi hack like 'Tar k h a d k a r'.
