The point can be made in a different way too. Bring a poor person who needs money. Explain his situation. Then ask who wants to help - hands will raise because our society is kind. However, the point is that hands didn't raise until the question was asked. It is the same lesson.

Capitalist approach is the way to go. Certainly way better than the har-ami communists

Why do you suppose that is bad? Maybe the lady wanted to buy books for poor kids. One must take action on one's goals...those goals could be altruistic of course.

Why to take it so negatively? We can apply the same wherever it s legal, its the fact that most of us even after we identify an opportunity, we don't make an attempt for various reasons like what others say, what if I fail etc. Only risk takers are rewarded well.
Grabbing a 500 Rupee Note.. the definiton of being a good manager now includes cheekiness, mannerlessness ,Lying in the eye,.... Everything in the name of Management and people promoting these attributes in the name of Good Management. Come on guys Honesty , trust and politeness are becoming Extinct..Please save them from being Extinct.

You are missing the point. The money was offered for free -> for whoever wants it. Nobody prevents the person wanting it to have altruistic intentions? The point is that you have to do to achieve - it is a good point.

Problem lies in the top management and our culture. In US also top managers are pushed to do do better in their field but they do not scold their subordinates to fuel their ego or to get rid of their tension. Instead they try to find ways to motivate employees to do better.
In India main problem is attitude of people with power. Once you have it you feel so superior to others that you do not care about their life, future or feelings.
We have seen our leader becoming rude and unapprochable and we follow their example in managing people under us and the whole chain continue like that.
Why else would they cultivate an environment of work where people are sitting at their desk till late evening to finish the work they could have finished if instead of time pass they would worked on the assignments. But it the nature of the manager, who believes that employees should not leave till he left and later an employee works, harder he is working.
Unless we change that attitude, we will continue to have issues.
The lady who grabbed the 500/- rupee note in the first instance might have had a nice time with it(with vodka and cigarette as is the norms now-a-days) :):)

well said... true value lies it how an opportunity is utilised... not how it was viewed by onlookers....
This technic of showing a note or a book or any other product and asking the audience "Who want this?" and people rushing to the stage.. I have seen this in many promotional talks to motivate people to take the next step which is to buy a motivational course or forex course or something else. Most likely lady would have seen this before in some other talk and this time she just sat in the front seat to run to the stage..these days many people run to the stage and the host will say that you have to collect the stuff at the registration counter and people running back to the registration counter..it is real comedy. Lesson to learn is you can throw a 500Rs to your target market and talk bullshit and get back several thousands.

I have heard this for the first time and stand inspired considerably. You seem to have heard this umpteen times and still surfing rediff without having taken any action so far. That perhaps explains a lot!
