Copy of credit card
by Rajib Chakraborty on Dec 12, 2012 04:01 PM

I remember to have once checked in into a hotel where they took a photocopy of my credit card. It was told that since I will be paying by card they were doing so. Although no foul play has happened but still, after reading this article I feel it could have been dangerous.

Are hotels within their rights to take photocopies of credit cards for such customers who would prefer to pay by card?

I was robbed for Rs 18000 some 4 years back when I had mistakenly given xerox copy of my card to an agent. He booked airlines tickets, cancelled them and took cash instaed. Though i finally got my money back, I had to go through a lot of trouble for the same. Best way is to scratch the CVV number from your Card and store it in your mobile with some pesudo-code / name.

Please be very careful while sharing you CC with any person.
