Already people are becoming yogis, learning to control their desire to eat the fruits due to prices so high that they can only see the pictures you provided. No use for the common man and I would say useless article as it does no good for a common man.

Agree. The high prices of fruits has made them out of reach for majority of Indians. It is better to get the same norishment from some vegetables though even they have become costly.

rediff staff gone biased.....always censoring my comments....even though they are normal and decent.
The best of the lot is Kiwi, it is Damn expensive in India compared to UAE where i live.In Chennai it costs 50 to 60 rs.the best are the ones from New Zealand ,the ones from Chile or Iran are not that delicious and are tasteless.
These days pesticides and chemicals used in fruits & vegetables are causing havoc and causing many disorder in humans. Their benefits has become doubtful as compared to their side effects.
In Apples, Grapes, Tomatoes, Brinjals etc. where the skin of the fruit or vegetable is smooth and silky, systemic pesticides are used along with fertilizers. As their skin are smooth, so spraying pesticides from outside are not effective as they got washed away easily with rain. So pesticides are mixed with fertilizers, which enters into the fruit through the plant and mostly reside in their skin. That’s why insects do not bite them and the fruit looks beautiful.
In Watermelon hormones are injected into the fruit to make it bigger. Banana and Mangoes are ripened with carbide gas at a suitable time before releasing from godown to market to make it saleable.
So to keep our body safe from the pesticides and chemicals Government should promote organic fertilizers and take strong actions against using of artificial ripening agents and systemic pesticides. Because the ill effects of these pesticides are carried over from generations to generations in human body.

Very good info and well atriculated. However, governments i.e. both politicians and babus are more interested in kick backs from these pesticides & GM seed companies than the health & wellbeing of common man. People are also to be blamed, because its regular people like you & me who do things like carbide ripening & mixing urea, salt in milk to make it look thick and last long.

We should not worry about fruits not grown in India. You can be perfectly healthy by eating seasonal fruits available in India that include Amla, Guava, jack fruit, Wood apple, SeetaPhal, Mango and others.
