In Inida most of them
by correct on Aug 20, 2012 09:29 PM

In India most of the talent is medicore. It is not individuals mistake. It is the mistake of the society. Most of them have poor sense. The quality of most of the India products is the way they maintain streets or the street traffic itself. No quality.

In indi having good english is considered a qualification

if You are chootiyaBut speak good English you are considered wise. If you have brain but cant speak good English you are considered buffoon.

Perhaps effect of English rule, on the contrary if you see french, germans etc they don't feel shame in speaking poor English but Indians do because despite British rule for so long they did not mastered the language, perhaps..

EXCELLENT IN ENGLISH AND GOOD FOR NOTHING
by pooja wadhwani on Aug 17, 2012 01:28 PM  | Hide replies

Wotz the point of being excellent in english and not worth a penny ???writers are not there to appease purist ,they write and communicate with the masses and make money .

they can keep on their payroll one hundred excellent english knowing ppl.

if u r a writer just care for number of sales and if u r a best seller ,u need to care for ppl who are good in english but good for nothing in real life.

Writing is an art...
Whether they make money or not is another question but eventually real literature will stand the test of time and pulp will be forgotten...

The likes of Chetan Bhagat sure make money by exploiting ignorance of "masses"... but they wont achieve more than a few years of fame... after sometime their tasteless and repetitive writing will get boring and some new pulp author will take their place...

just care for number of sales??

Writing is not like selling soap... exactly because of this mentality India is becoming intellectually decadent...

An Art is as good as the people liking it... I can't read more than 5 pages of the best english writers like Salman Rushdie etc so what's the point in reading them.. On the other hand i can read a chetan Bhagat's book in one sitting...

At the end of the day I am not reading to improve my english.. I am reading it for the value that it provides me in my life - either entertainment or Knowledge..

BTW, I hope you have read this article for checking grammetical mistakes and confirm whether this article is a piece of art or not...

by palanki narayana on Aug 17, 2012 06:33 AM

Indian writers writing on Indian themes for Indian readers successfully adopted Indian idiom for their writings.Mulk Raj Anand is an early example.

bad english
by Li Na on Aug 16, 2012 11:01 PM  | Hide replies

this dude goes on and on and on about how most indian authors have bad english.

my question to this dude - does it matter...as long as author communicates it?? who came up with the rules of language anyway that determines a lang as good or bad.

and if i think of it....english is actually a very dumb language sans logic.

why on earth english has capital and small letters??

why is c at times used, when s or k will make more sense....as in cease, coal??

what on earth is silent letter....hour, knife, know...??

why does g have 2 different pronunciations...in goal and gel?? Why can't gel be written as jel?

why is cough and tough, go and to spelled similarly but pronounced differently??

why is content and content written exactly the same, yet have different pronunciations as well as different meanings??

Why is ch in charge and charade pronounced differently??

i could go on and on....

indian authors should stop panning others with bad english and concentrate on a good story.

and who says that e-reading would take off after kindle arrives in india??? there are plenty of Tabs in which you can read PDFs comfortably!
