I think I was making fool of Myself, for some Statements below!
by Suraesh Singh on Apr 29, 2012 03:27 AM

Doesn’t matter their is a Special strategy for playing or not, still the average score simply based on blind guess or probability for the above puzzle will be 66%.

If their are three choices for each question, than on average for 12 questions, we should be able to get 12/3 = 4 correct in the first try, then for remaining 8 questions left, we will get second try and with two options left, average mean score will be 8/2=4.

So just by probability our average mean score for 12 questions become 4 plus 4 = 8 (Sum of correct in the first and second try) and average probability becomes 8/12=66%.

Although I got my personal stuff to do, but wherever possible, I try to make sure that I am not misleading people with my statements or views!

It is very confusing sometimes even for people from Karnataka. Bhatkal is in "Uttara Kannada" but not in "Uttara Karnataka". We know the difference the two but for an outsider it is very obvious to equate Kannada with Karnataka.

This Quiz is Biased towards Success
by Suraesh Singh on Apr 28, 2012 06:18 AM  | Hide replies

In Monty Hall paradox with the Puzzle of same kind, one wrong option out of three choices is removed and then player is allowed to switch his/her initial choice.

It is found that although theoretical probability of success in remaining two options is 50:50, but whenever player switched their initial choice, average success rate was 66%.

People find it confusing, but I did it more easily for this Quiz. I did not saw the pictures above and started with two probable answers in my mind and stick to my remaining answer, when one of them is declared incorrect. So basically I have chosen 2 out of 3 probable answers and thus end up with 66% success chance.

Rediff can test this hypothesis anytime, if they put a different Quiz with same questioning strategy but almost no background, religious or culture hints/clues, then average blind guess will lead to most people scoring 66% (8/12) and minimum any user can score will be not less than 33% (4/12).

Minimum will be 33% because when average probability is 50%, random outcomes swings between 0 and 100% i.e. (0 100)/2 = 50, when average probability is 66% then random user results should swing between 33% and 100% i.e.(33 100)/2 = 66.5.

I am not sure, How intelligent manipulation like clues in the pictures above, will affect the Minimum/Maximum score for any random person.

But assuming most player are trying to gain Maximum score, then average score should be somewhere around 80% (10/12).

Probably this site don't accept plus sign

(0 100)/2 and (33 100)/2 is

(0 Plus 100)/2= 50

(33 Plus 100)/2= 66.5

Idea is that for randomly occurring wave pattern, Maximum and Minimum amplitude should be at equal distance from the average Mean, and average Mean can be accurately guess by Law of Large Numbers, which in turn is derived by analysing a large number of random sets of all possible outcomes in an experiment.

Being Honest! I am not completely sure about the probability of success and minimum/maximum score in this type of questioning Strategy, until statistical results for large number of outcomes are available and rigorous analysis is done.

But one thing I can say that, if a reader knowing nothing about India plays this Quiz and follow my strategy, then in the worst case scenario, there is a extremely good chance that their score will not go below 33% i.e. they will get at least 4 correct out of 12.

And please I was not trying to show off anything! Just felt like writing something, so wrote it down! Who knows it might be useful to people in practical life decision making!

Ok One final clarification, in Monty Hall Puzzle, switching your initial answers works better because they declare one wrong option which you have not chosen.

In this Quiz initially having two options in mind works better because they tell you, if your first try is wrong.

I think you will need a much larger set of Q&A s for the above analysis to be correct. 12 Qs is a very small number to hit near a probability counter.
