Attitudes of affluent sections in India
by R Chakravarti on Apr 21, 2012 08:01 AM

I live in Kerala which is supposed to be more egalitarian than the rest of India. But the attitudes are not very different.

School children have a comtempt for adivasis: that is a derogatory term!

College students from poor families get told by their teachers that they ought to do domestic work.

There is a reservation system but the beneficiaries are mostly from the creamy layer.

After all the hardship he faced, Dr Bali could have easily chosen to stay in the U.S.. I know of one such case. It is very creditable that he returned to serve India.

talent is not captive domain of some classes!!!
by Shanker Kumar on Apr 21, 2012 06:57 AM

Dr Bali, education capacity is in all classes! If only somebody could help realise that, so called upper caste attitude will go into hiding....for centuries, a barber or a cleaner children is forced to do the same thing, to avoid competition in the top of the pyramid by some upper caste mortals!! If India can break that syndrome in system and in the minds, we will be a super power in real terms.
