Filing of income tax return becomes mandatory as per section 139 (1) of the Income tax Act when the income of an individual exceeds the basic exemption limit therefore please cross check before you go ahead

if your salary is less than 5 lac ur exempted from filing return
by Chirag Chitrapur on Apr 13, 2012 01:07 AM  | Hide replies

Note if your salary is less than 5 lac then u are exempted from paying tax

This is not totally correct. if i am not wrong the law states that ur exempted from filing returns only if you have salary income less than 5 lacs. This is practically not correct as you would have interest income (in the form of saving bank interest) etc which then makes it mandatory for you to file return. But pls check up on it.

Further if you have any refund of tax then u need to file return to get the refund

It does not matter whether you have one form 16 or two what matters is :-
YOU MUST HAVE ONLY SALARY INCOME ON WHICH CORRECT AMOUNT OF TDS HAS BEEN DEDUCTED
