It is ridiculous to stereotype people from a partcicular community as "misers".I DON'T agree. Most of them belong to "Saraswata Gowda Brahmin" community and they are very good at heart, kind and excellent hosts. They dont leave any stones unturned in giving best possible hospitality to their guests. This is from my personal aasociation with the folks of the community ranging from Maharashtra to down Kerala for a very long period of time.

then why are you generalizing all as misers... for your kind information they are not misers...they dont wish to waste on anything..including food...that does not mean they are misers.

I think the author didn't call them as misers. Its just mentioned that "The joke within the state is that the people in Konkan are misers". The author has well explained the reasons behind them, being so called as misers. He has explained the ground realities nicely. He also has mentioned that "In their hearts, these folks are good people. You don't feel insecure while roaming alone on a vacant beach.". Since I myself belong to that community, I welcome what he has written.

I have tried to explained the reasons behind them so called as "misers". I have never said that they are.
