started by sir Cecil Rhodes owner of Rhodesia, called Col Taka Taka, because he introduced machine gun to kill blacks in Africa. He played on British against south Africans and gained in between.
If one see recent trends, Rhodes scholarships are given more in these subjects and very few in other streams like management or exact sciences. Oxford has always been an university for social sciences with a bend towards philosophy and politics. Not a general scholarship and hence not a balanced article.

not true, I had met quite a few Rhode scholars who were studying physical science.. One of my Indian classmate was also a Rhode Scholar studying computer science at Oxford...
