This article is assigning the problem of exploitation to the victim itself. Some people have to work more because their boss and the company support exploitation and cover their own shortcomings in management. They say the person is inexperienced so he/she has to work for 12-14 hours a day to be as efficient as an experienced person. There are some people who are ready to face consequences like average appraisal and less salary hike. Some are ready to be exploited for promotions, onsite and salary hikes.
As India needs Electricity, the Kudankulam Atomic Power project should not be stopped. But Who takes the risk should be given more priority, means 60% of electricity produced should be given to Tamil Nadu and 30KM area around kugankulam should be given at Free of cost. if still any body opposes the project on the basis of life risk they should be given option to relocate like mumbai, rajastan, Dhar Desert or some remote areas, where their life is safe. If you have any property - take compensation from govt as per govt value of your property. Who lives in and around kudankulam should get free ration, free electricity and Job.
I was a senior executive in State Bank of India. I presently work in Muscat. I have had chance to travel to different countries as well and learn about work orientation elswhere through interaction. I agree that Indians are overworked. People have not learnt to relax. There is some kind of Manager-subordinate relationship that exists in India, which I dont see in many places. This implicit obedience, real or imaginary, is misused by superiors. I feel there is an organised effort to extract more work while denying basic amenities. I have observed that some of the basic issues we fight for in India are taken for granted in foreign countries. Many may not know that Italians and French workers enjoy the highest holidays in the world. This is the reason why West finds it profitable to push work to Indian labourers. Apparently, there is a strong need for Indian workers to balance work and family life.

you are only partly right. the problem with Indian workers is not the amount of work, but it is about attitude, professionalism and discipline - which our culture lacks. I also agree that Indian managers tend to exploit the workers, but this is the price of living in an overpopulated part of the world. Both the manager and worker know that if they dont work properly, there are a million others waiting to get that job, as long as it is no rocket science. Overwork is not isolated to India as most of the far east Asia suffers from the same - be it Singapore or China or Japan or Korea.
The problem with Europe, southern Europe in particular, is apparent and I would surely say that those countries with pathetic work culture are soon going to be sinking ships and perhaps likely to get into severe mess. For Indians to succeed, our workers need more confidence and should evolve and develop their skills to become more valued. In our democracy, we are too dependent on govt and it should be the first thing to change to be successful.

Anoop, Maddy was correct. Indians are no longer the hardworking (atleast in India) resources. Indians become lazy, unproductive these days. Every indians work hard for first 2 or 3 years and after that spend their time by talking the legacy performances.
