Myths persist through ages

I am reminded of a Readers' Digest snippet:
An English preacher used to tell his audience about his African experience.During his stint in an African country he collected three objects which the natives believed had magical powers:a shell which gave the power of victory over enemies,a seed which gave wisdom to its owner,a root which was an aphrodisiac. The preacher used to circulate these three objects among his English audience, telling them how superstitious his African folk were. After circulating in a few meetings he still had the shell and the seed but the root had disappeared!
