Myth 7 busted- be FD wise.
by Indian Guru on Mar 10, 2011 07:23 PM  | Hide replies

Stocks are risky, you may loose your money altogether.

The fundamental reason for investing in FDs is to make sure to secure some part of investment.

The idea is to build a portfolio of investments.

The best way to start of is to decide your risk appetite. 100% risk or 100% safe,
40% risk and 60% safe.

If you have a lakh to invest in an year, you can have 25% in FDs, 25% in high returning bonds, 25% for ULIPs and have 25% invest in stock markets..

Over a 10year period this will fetch good returns without jeopardising all your investment. After all this is your money and financial players will play with your money.

You may win or loose in this game. So be wise investing and don't say no to FDs and use it as a tool to secure some part of your investment.

Every Financial player in the market wants you to do exactly the opposite as therein lies his benefit.

ULIPS --> A waste. Why do you need to pay your hard earned money to the agents and insurance companies? Mutual Funds have far lesser costs and is always recommened.

Invest in stocks - Retail investors almost always makes only losses. Unless you earn few crores and doesn't mind loosing a major portion in short term and can wait for years, never ever invest in shares directly. Also you will need to do lots of reasearch and need a lot of patience, still you can end up making losses. Retail investors should always go with MF - Index funds and large cap diversified funds with a track record of beating SENSEX for years.

Also there is nothing like 100% risk free. An indeal portfolio should have 5% - 10% Gold, 25% - 75% mutual funds and 20%-70% fixed deposits and other debt options. The percentage should be decide based on the Age, earning capacity and risk aptitude. Take a term policy for insurance and don't mix insurance with investment.

Bank Deposits V/S Company Deposits
by Ashok Sapre on Mar 10, 2011 06:46 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Sir,
Would you kindly publish the names of the companies where you should invest and where you should not invest ?

Most of the people who invest in FD with Banks are guided by the fact that your principal amount is secured even if interest is lower than market. In any case one should not invest all the money with one particular institution. While investing in other than nationalised banks one must use one's own discrition rather than be guided by sentiment or advertisement.

Fixed Deposit Vs Stock Market
by Bharat on Mar 10, 2011 10:26 AM  | Hide replies

The article has been published by rediff on kickback fee paid by brokers. Junta will read such articles and start to move their hard earned money from FD to stock markets.

Rediff should provide clarity here. FD is a product where the customer / invested gets a guaranteed returns. Where as in stock markets - I do not know how rediff or for that matter the brokers provide a guaranteed higher returns. Junta should not look at the bull run of 2003-2008. This is one off case and Indians may not see the same bull run again in next 20 years also.

In Stock Market, no one can guarantee the returns of the capital invested, where as FD will keep growing. It is a question of risk vs returns. So lets not be greedy - keep a porttion of the savings in Stock Market and rest in FD

"Fact 7: The effective returns from an FD are lower than stock market returns

This is due to the fact that fixed deposits are unable to beat inflation
"
Then what is this?

One idea which I want to share here :
TDS is not applicable in interest payout is less than 10K per branch.
So better go for a bank which is offering 9.9% interest per annum.
Amount deposited = 1,00,000
Interst = 9.9%
Total interest payout = 9,900 rupess per annum(825 rs monthly)

So TDS would be applicable and they will deduct the same.
However, if you opt for monthly payment, can be avoided.
