Yes, its true! I witnessed a haunting 'bout 25 years ago though I don't talk about it in front of others as their expressions tell me that they are taking me for a crazy bum.
I won't take any names to avoid any legal issues but it was in a 5 star hotel of Delhi which had been bought by a well known Indian hotel chain a few years ago. This hotel also had a famous South Indian restaurant till a few years ago which closed down when the hotel was sold.
Anyways, an IAS officer of UP cadre was killed by his wife in this hotel when she caught him with his lover in a room. About 25 years ago our family went to stay in this visit when my father came here on an official visit. My father was a serving IAS officer of UP cadre at that time.
And believe it or not but the ghost of the murdered office came into our room while I was alone. The door was locked but he just walked in. He talked to me, asked my about my father, told me to say hello to him and just walked out through the locked doors.
Think what you may but this is true and happened with me. Some old staff of that Hotel could also verify that the officer's ghost used to haunt the hotel.

We are scared of ghosts at night. In broad daylight practically no ghost dares to create problems.
Do ghosts have a light meter which tells them when the playing hours are good?
No.
However, our fears are closely linked to our own residual DNA of having evolved from herbivorous or non-predatory feeding animals.
Non-predator DNA makes you extra-cautious at night, of attacks from behind, of tiny rustling sounds in the background, of soft footsteps, of high-pitched sounds from the distance, of grey shadows, of moving trees, branches, leaves, anything that indicates that a predator is approaching.
It is a residue from our past as hominids living on the plains in groups.
And till 100 years back there was this fear for anyone leaving the house to answer nature's call at night.
So the fear of the predator attacking at night is well established in our mental bodies.
This is our fear of ghosts.
Otherwise, we would fear ghosts in the day too, just like one fears going into a Dawood gang area in broad daylight too.
Are you not slightly more alert when your boss is around?
Are not bosses a bit predatory in their behaviour?
Such small things help sustain the primal fear programmed by millions of years of evolution.
And it comes out as ghosts.
True spirits could be good also.
And they could maul even 100s of humans in crowds and under the noon sun also.

Who is to say that specific lightning strikes are not engineered by ghosts, or that ghosts do not indulge in extra carnage in an earthquake or tsunami?
What prevents a ghost from participating in such events?
But do we worry about ghosts when such things happen?
Because we think only simplistically - one threat at one time :-)
Its more of your own mind than the evil of a ghost.
For that matter, how do you know that God is not the biggest ghost of them all?
Just because God is good?
He shows all other properties - unpredictable, unexpected, silent, invisible, can pass through walls, inescapable, and so on.
So why is God not a ghost?
Just give a little thought and you find that fear of ghosts is more our own evolutionary habits than real beings out to trouble you.
Like lions, crocodiles and cobras, or Gods in temples, if you dont trouble them, they dont trouble you.
This is spookiest and scariest in India. Coz There is a family lives in this a row house. That family terrorises the entire nation in the last 1 year. The senior most member of this household just turned 88 years old, he has another house in CIT colony. These two houses are the spookiest houses in India. In my opinion. You will never guess, understand whats happenening here.
Remaining skeptical and dismissive doesn't come easy these days as Indian Television produces copycat programs that are dated in American TV. We, somehow have to be tickle ourselves to fear because the modern day urban jungle is not making us afraid enough to keep our instincts alert and intact. Hence such programs to keep our banal lives exciting. If only they succeed in doing so!!!
