PRONOUNCIATIONS
by ajay nishikant sadgule on Jan 14, 2016 12:00 PM

I like to weigh in here by commenting upon the pronunciation of certain words which English have developed over a period of time. Take for eg:- JALAPENO in which J is pronounced as "A" or say the name of drink MOJITO which is pronounces as MOHITO. Now in both these examples the words are inspired from Spanish language. But when desis pronounce this words as "Alapeno"or "Mohito" they actually hold their head high showing that they are better learned putting us in unexplainable situations. I think English itself is entwining with several other languages and today desis are adopting these changes to separate themselves as a standard class persons.
Do we adopt it too???????????

There is no Madrasi English as such.If u have closely observed the pronunciation varies from State to State in INDIA as every state has its state language alonwith MT of individuals and dialects among many communities. Therefore to say Madrasi English is ridiculous.I know on IPS officers(from UP and Assam) posted in Andhra and Karnataka speaking English in a similar tone to that of local people educated in English. In INDIA the pronunciation of words in ENGLISH depends where people live as the tone and style have bearing of the local language spoken.

Often we use 'Between' and 'To'. 'Between' and 'And' go together.

Eg. I studied today between 9AM and 12PM. (Correct).
I studied today between 9AM to 12PM (Incorrect).
I studied today from 9AM to 12PM. (Correct)

Enlish mistakes

This English is for English teachers who have to teach English Grammar to School or College students. Languages is a way of making others understand what you/others feel/want. Correct English is certainly good but not many Indians (even those who have studied English litt at Graduation level) may use such correct words. Once our PM Charan Singh in one of his Public Speeches, said IN THE INTERNATIONAL WORLD. And I think, he was LL.B (must have passed BA) and this is the way they speak (normally they read out speeches written by their Secretaries) what to comment about common man. Well just as CEO of a British NGO had no answer to a journalist's query, what he thinks about the saying "India goes despite Government", while discussing corruption in India. India goes on with any kind of English OR even no English. Thats what UPA is trying to with Civil services
examinations.

COMMON ENGLISH MISTAKES BY DESIS
by Madhu kumar on Apr 01, 2013 01:52 PM  | Hide replies

If you ask someone how is she, pat the reply comes 'I am good'. Should it not be I am fine or ok. Good means the he/she is not a bad person.
Similarly alternate is used in place of alternatively.
Desis cannot pronounce the word 'Queen' correctly.

"I am good" is an American usage. It is as English in US as "I am fine" is in UK English.
