Out of focus article.
by Just Right on Jul 06, 2011 03:53 PM  | Hide replies

Author has completely lost focus point here and instead is beating his drum of "backwards and reservation". Real reason for outcry in Shri Ram is it is a good institute to get great job offers and now getting admission to this institute has become almost impossible with 100% cut-off.

His point is, let merit prevail and you can go to some other college of commerce as SRCC is not that great anyways. Funnily they were able to fill their seats with that 100% cut offs.

SRCC is in demand for the brand
by Jayanth on Jul 06, 2011 03:46 PM

I dont think the author has wrongly identified the concerns of parents being the mix of students. While there may be outcry based on reservations, the key reasons for SRCC demand is bcoz of the brand. Its a great insti to have on ur resume to get that creamy job offer.

Question of social composition
by Saurav Basu on Jul 06, 2011 03:43 PM  | Hide replies

The regressive policy of quota is in place for over 6 decades now. The policy makers have dictated the social composition of our universities and colleges from IITs to AIIMS. (with 22% and now 49% reservation with exceptions like TN which has around 70%) The public cost of sustaining this 'positive' discrimination and its toll on social morality and national integration requires an honest evaluation.

Why?
by Saurav Basu on Jul 06, 2011 03:37 PM

Why subject young people to so called positive discrimination. Does it breed anything apart from naked incompetence. Would we have had a world beating cricket team if we practiced reservation in sport?

Merits of the merit
by Srinivasan Thyagarajan on Jul 06, 2011 03:24 PM

Scoring hundred% do all the students have the same merit on a scale?Should there be clarity when joining 11th on the stream and going for the same stream unless it is found that the stream ,may be chosen by parents do not interest the ward. Why not think about aptitude evaluation which should change this scenario

brutally honest

"for if we are honest, that specialness was built on social exclusivity and little else"
"a nice place with a decent canteen, isn't precisely the beating heart of Business Studies. The frontiers of double-entry book-keeping have not been pushed back in its laboratories recently. No bestselling pop-management books have emerged from its staff room."
brutal honesty!!
