Number portability
by ASHOK IYER on Jan 21, 2011 12:05 AM

This is not so effective in India. This dose not provide inter state portability effecting the change of our number.
This portability system was introduced in USA, because the service providers were wooing customers with exciting offers. There was a security problem tracing a persons number. First this was introduced in the land phone and then in the mobile.
In India, many people use 2 sim cards to get better coverage. So I do not think there will be much swap across the service providers.
But it is better to have that system and if it is applicable tthru out the country, then it will be fine.

TRAI, Telecom Ministry and operators are playing with one basic mindset of humanity which says that the 'grass is greener on the other side of the fence.'
I m a vodafone user in Mumbai and I hate to b with vodafone but till date couldn't get rid of it as it would mean that I had to change my no. Finally now I have a choice, but hearing complaints (and the genuine ones) of subscribers of other operator I am still not sure whether I should change the operator or not.

MNP TENDS TO SWICH OVER FROM EXISTING PROVIDER TO NEW ONE.THATS WHY U WILL HAVE TO SEND MSG FROM THAT NO. ONLY.BCAUSE IT GET TRACKED IN A SERVER WCHICH IS CALLED AS IST.
Subscriber can stay with same technology, GSM/CDMA. Also change to CDMA or vice versa. Both post-paid & prepaid subscribers can use it.SO FIND YR LOST SIM...AS A NEW ONE,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I feel sorry for your innocence. MNP means you can swith to new network from your existing network. So you have to send the messaqe in the prescribed format from your old SIM to 1900, after getting the code, take it and visit your new service provider and take new SIM card. to keep it short you have send the message from your old SIM

Abe pagal hai kya Nitin??
MNP is for those who are not happy with their existing service provider. If you have lost your sim, then this is an special case. Get a new sim from ur existing service provider and then initiate portability.
