If 8 persons has got 100 percentile, then students appearing in the exam has to be between 160000 and 179999 (both inclusive) applicants how are you reporting 1.86 lakhs????

i didnt get your calculations?. How they are even related? if 100 students got same maximum marks , there are 100 toppers , how does that affect total no of aspirants ?
The IIMs have lost most of their sheen and glamour in the last 4 or 5 years, thanx to recession and pathetic pay packets and also the setting up of so many new IIMs to the extent that the glamour quotient has been taken away.....
Now this year might see better placements and thus the glamour quotient might return, but i think professinals are better off focusing on institutes like ISB or the US B achools for better professional prospects......There is far more hype and plain lies about the IIMs and their placements than substance......
All that an IIM grad gets on an average is 20% more than what a graduate from a good engineering college would get......
For eg. if a IIT guy rakes in 6 to 7 LPA, an IIM guy would get about 8 LPA.......thats all....does it deserve so much hype??

I am not arguing or anything but IIMs placement data are true although they are certainly hyped. I know 3 people who got fat checks after passing from IIM-A. It was about $ 2 lakhs. Certainly; they had the talent.. ps: The fat salaries are limited to offshore placements in investment banking.

I know, cos ISB, unlike some of the IIMs don't fake their placement reports...... When the IIMs say they have an average pay packet of 12 LPA, everyone knows there is no grain of truth in it......let us not even get into it!! Some fake i banking salary of 70 to 80 LPA distorts averages...the true average on an IIM campus is about 10 CTC which equates to about 55,000 to Rs 60,000 take home post tax...this is what an average IIM grad gets...and don't even contest this cos i'am in HR with an FMCG major.....

FMCG majors do pay lesser compared to banking, consulting and general management profiles. But I don't think that is true of HUL/P&G who do pay atleast on par.
I cant believe in this age the CAT website is unable to handle high traffic to their site. If the website cannot support 1.86 Lakh students wanting to check their website then why the hell they charged 1400rs for the application?
This used to happen when I was in 12th CBSE and wanted to check my board results. There are thousands of sites out there that can easily support high traffic but CAT people cant rent up dedicated servers for few days when they know the traffic will be high.

Moreover, i concur with the posts below me the CAT is being given more than deserved attention. I, for one, gave the exam just becuase my parents asked me to give it a try.
Its not the end of the world.. its just a small part of it.
Not sure Why cat is over marketed every where. Now all branch of engineering graduates are apperaing for this exam as if this is end of world. For 1 (one) mark there will be 1000's od candiates and then the group discussion and other things. Also there is a huge business for Cat aspirants like all flourishing trainning institutes minting money.
