India needs more enterpreneurs instead of mere job seekers
by sandeep kukreja on Feb 24, 2011 11:16 PM

Everybody is just chasing white collar jobs after doing Mba. If india has to create sufficient job opportunities for these endless mba's, it will have to create new generation of enterpreneurs as there is acute need of enterpreneurs who can create opportunities. So India at the moments need people who can get into the role of enterpreneurs instead of job seekers.

People don't want to be entrepreneur for fear of job &am
by ashutosh gupta on Feb 24, 2011 07:40 PM

Indian mindset is getting into job first and then get married, raise family, get kids married and retire peacefully. Life wasn't beyond that but due to liberalisation, govt. jobs are less and so one is forced to go for pvt. job and so he/she comes out with innovative ideas and entrepreneurial skills.

One more thing, people don't want to venture into small business is pathetic state of affairs of the government. If you are a small businessman, you are always afraid of local constable, trade tax inspector, electricity dept. etc etc even if you have all the papers with you. They can get you involved in any case on false and flimsy grounds.

To have courage to fight with corrupt officials, you have only Judiciary to go into which itself is in poor shape and plus it is very expensive and time-consuming. Justice is always delayed and in other words it is denied.

So its not surprising that People in India always look for Job wherein at the end of day, they can sleep peacefully and take care of their family.

Sabbatical

I am on a sabbatical for over year and half now. I have a job but I am on a loss of pay or leave of absence to pursue my interest. Well it is not a success story so far but I got a good start. And I only invested part of my savings.

Normally people are afraid of enterprenership because of the fear of failure. Or failing in business and running out of money. But why not just invest a fraction ( like 25% ) of your savings and try your hand. Invest your full time to your venture and it sure will succeed. Just give it some time to establish. First two years will be hard work of trial and error , correction of course and so on.

Take a small grocery store for example. Every one needs groceries right ? The only skill you need is to sit at the counter and diligently maintain an inventory and books. And manage the staff well. The whole sale marketer deliver the goods. And you sell them at a percentage to the retailer. Simple funda.

Why should enterpreunership should always be like building a big company like Infosys or Microsoft ? Any home grown business is just fine. Make flower pots and sell for all you care. But only thing you have to work on is restraint. Business will take time to mature and grow. Where as in a job, you see results every year in terms of salary.

i appreciate your courage. it needs some guts to do that. In the long term you will have satisfaction that you tried to achieve what you like, even if it does not turn out to be as big as a success as you would like.and the experiance you get will always be with you amd may come handy in your future endeavours.
all the best!

reality check
by GRINDIAN on Feb 24, 2011 02:25 PM  | Hide replies

Beyani's sucess is fraction in ocmparision ot teh no of failed Biyanis and gone in vacume of time , in comparison to the MBA getting plump jobs for doing nothing much .
So possibility to be a successful entrprenuer is very feeble and happen once 100000 wher as almost 100 % MBA do end up getting plump jobs. Now chice is yours.

For every MBA getting a 'white collared job' there are two dozens who languish in odd jobs in call centers and so on. Well it still is a white collar job no doubt.

India has close to 1500 colleges offering MBA education. So we are talking about the tune of 1.5 lac MBAs churned out of these collegers every year. There are then distance
education programs and so on. So , india produces over 2 lac MBAs every year.
What do you think ? All these guys getting PLUM jobs ? lol.

On the other hand every enterpriser is bound to be successful in due course. Tell me howmany grocery store owners have FAILED vis-a-vis the MBAs.

So what Mr.Biyani says is absolutely absolutely correct.
