IN UK,Europe and even in USA cottage cheese is a different product. It comes in small tubs and is eaten with salads, on the toast or straight with a spoon. Paneer is Known as Paneer and come in a cellophane wrapped Block of 250grams. Don't ask for cottage cheese when you want Paneer,you will get different product which is unsuitable for cooking. Just ask for or look for Paneer on the shelves of super market.

Cottage cheese is unpressed cheese suspended in whey and slightly sour and sweetened. Paneer is cottage cheese pressed, all water removed and turned in to block. which then can matured or used raw for cooking.
