Cheating by Tatasky.
by shivpujan on Feb 11, 2011 10:46 AM  | Hide replies

Since the children mostly like to watch different channels, i got Tatasky DTH for two TVs. I paid for full one year subscription for both the TVs, but within few months Tatasky enhanced their rates for second TV and reduced full year subscription to 8 months unilaterally. I told their customer care that the increased rates should be applicable after contracted period of one year was over, but they did not listen. Nobody except their customer care executives is approachable for redressal of cusomers grievances. So, I decided to go for airtel Tv which I find cheaper and better. Do others have similar experience with Tatasky?

Two years back, I took Tata Sky connection. They had few tamil channels only, but promised that within 2 months, they will add atleast another 6, but it never happened.

I want to share one more stuff. I used to watch DD Pothigai regularly. One day, suddenly they removed this. I called call centre and they said, channel has been removed due to poor viewership.

Guess then DD officials complained about Tata Sky for taking it out (All DD channels have to be given compulsorily as per rule). Then after 3 days, Tata Sky brought the channel back. Their message said 'Due to overwhelming customers request, they are bringing back DD Pothigai'. LoL

I forgot to something. They jacked up the prices too. I felt irritated and have taken out the connection. In my opinion Cable TV is the best

I agree to the core... These DTH guys play with ppl and offers. Basic difference apart from technology - DTH are product based, once they sell dont expect any services but CableTV is a service based concern. A good CableTV will do for me ;)

TATAsky does not resolve the queries of its subscriber.

Even if you log the request only, it is "resolved" without any reason or answer.

I wanted TATAsky to give me option to delete individual channels from the "garbage" which came with my "package".

Other workaround can be to increase the "favourite" count to 200 or more.

But nothing happened.

They just lure and trap you!

How about TV?
by Prajesh on Feb 11, 2011 10:25 AM

Nice article! Suppose, my cable operator or DTH provider provides MPEG-4 but TV is normal color not flat or LED or HD TV. Will I get same output?

I have a question
by Gautam Nagda on Feb 11, 2011 10:21 AM  | Hide replies

Very well explained. The main issue is, that even after using higher technology, does the viewer get comparable better picture quality??

I have a question.

Many showrooms show DTH demo on LCD tv's. Will the same DTH provide good picture quality on an cathode ray TV or not??

Thanx in adavance

Gautam, let me attempt. But, I may be wrong. Cathode Ray TVs are things of the past. The basic aspects where the current lot beats them is the size, Higher Contrast Ratios, High Definition Displays, much higher refresh rate. So, even if you have High Definition Streaming, Plasmas, LCDs and LEDs come clear winners over CRTs.

Comments Please, folks !!!

Well, again there is a catch. LEDs or Plasmas are way better of course but they are costlier. LCD? well there could be a problem. The regular LCDs which come at lower costs (32 inch that come near 25-30K) has lesser refresh frequency around 50Hz, has issues. It gives jitter pictures, specially for action and sports.

Well written article Vijay Padiyar !!
by Common Man on Feb 10, 2011 07:21 PM

This is a very informative article with less jargon ease of understanding by laypersons. Well written Vijay.
It would be naive to think that MPEG-4 based DTH Operators would pass on the benefits of the newer tech, without really commercially exploiting the same to the hilt. Hence, it is quite likely that MPEG-4 based operators actually dish out lower quality a/v than MPEG-2 based ones. Unless the govt (TRAI ?) standardizes the tech and minimum acceptable levels of a/v quality by each operator, the newer operators will continue to mislead consumers.
One good aspect about DTH is that the quality of transmission remains the same across the country - being satellite based - unlike the local cable TV operators. Moreover, DTH Operators offer a choice of channels, which works well for people with kids at home, whom they wouldn't want to watch certain channels. Cable TV doesn't quite match up to the features and choices that DTH offers, though CAS based cable TV does to some extent.
With expensive HD TVs still being beyond the reach of average joes like me, HD TV thru DTH will remain a niche service with limited appeal.

Cable is far better

Cable is much better with STB. In freaky weather your dish may black out. It takes days for servicing.

Only if the operator provides proper service. Depends on the DTH provider customer service. I am using DTH for years, I didn't had the problem yet, there are temperory black out due to rain interrupting the signals, but after that it works properly. In your case may be the installation was not proper the wind changed the direction of your antenna.
