I have a Visa credit card and the total sum added is not divisible by 10. But i have been using this card for quiet long. And more over this tip is not revelant to the Card Holder.
The above calculation is wrong.Instead of 1 8 it should be 2 8.So the final number is 70 which is divisible by 10. Next thing is I did the same thing with my credit card which is not divisible by 10.But i have been using this for 11 years. So the conclusion is that if it is not divisible by 10 then it is correct otherwise it is fake. Why rediff publishes junk data without even verifying it?.
I don't understand the purpose of this article. How this information can be useful to a credit card customer? You want us to do this math and find out whether the card I am holding has a valid number? Or is this article intended for the merchant? Credit card fraud means somebody else using your credit card without your knowledge. In such fraud also the card is always a valid card. In that sense how this article helps anybody? Yeah, it helps somebody attempting this fraud onlne to generate a valid card number !

I would say, this info is still valid.
When a merchant who does not have an online connection to credit card transaction machine, one can still findout of the credit card is fake or genuine.
also using this algorithm, a website can find out without contacting the third party credit card approval service provider if the credit card is fake or genuine.
you may not know, but some service providers charge for each hit and verification, so some cost can be saved here.
any ways, I would like to thank the publisher of this article :-)
