The most pathetic mistake.
by bihari babu on Dec 03, 2011 01:26 PM  | Hide replies

If you talk to american tourist. they will tell you. its so hard for them to understand indian accent when they have to call indian call center.
the reason is simple. indian dont practice to speak slowly, and in dilect so that westerner can understand. thats major reason why call centr jobs are going away from india.
we think we speak very clearly. but how much other person understand. thats the real issue.
they should ask american trainers. otherwise keep living in fools dream. we are best speaker of english.

This is not the problem specific to US. We Indian speak English very fluently and we everyone understand that in India. But people outside in India, whether it is US, Europe or West Asia, they are not fluent in English and they think and speak each work. I have the same problem in Saudi also. So, the problem is not with us, the problem is also on the otherside.

More than the speed, native English speakers stress on consonents like B, D, P, T etc they dont have the soft and hard versions of these letters as they exist in Indian languages. A simple word 'Pal' would be pronounced as 'Phan'.

This simple adjustment takes the understandability a long way, because the stressing automatically slows down the speed of speech.

R at the end of the word is not explicitly pronounced like 'under' actually is pronounced as 'anda', the way Indians pronounce it, they hear is as 'andarr'.

Funny English Ads
by SUBROTO RAY on Dec 03, 2011 09:16 AM  | Hide replies

These are ridiculously silly mistakes. Some more as in following ads:
" Two wheelar parking" and "Dealers of propertise". These make you feel ashamed not as much for not knowing the foreign language but for the lack of effort in finding out the correct spellings before advertising in a public domain.

"The doctor will be back by noon". Always use 'by' as a preposition while referring time. Never use 'at'.

preposition for time can be any by, at, in ,on , after ago, between, during, from, for, untill, to, up to , within etc depending on the usage or intention.
at is used when it is part of the day of time of the day. eg.at night at 6 o'clock; at midnight.
by means not later than a special time e.g. by Thursday , by noon, by 10 oclock

"at" should be used if you specify the precise time when an event happens - at noon means the event occurs or expected to occur exactly at 12:00PM. "by" is used for approximation - by noon can be 11:45 AM or 12:10 PM ...
