Very difficult to Stop such things
by Northie on Dec 10, 2011 04:54 PM

Frankly speaking it is very difficult to stop
such things. Girls will continue to wear what
they want to wear and the boys will continue
follow girls however hard you may try.
That is O.K if no one is crossing their limits

Naive Author
by ashish anand on Dec 05, 2011 10:28 AM  | Hide replies

The navivety of author is clearly on display as well as the middle-class disgust of not so middle class people when she says that its a class thing.

It's not a class thing Madam. Wake Up. The tendency is across all classes, only the ways change, the place and the surrounding change.

And north bashing is another thing which perhaps you would like to enjoy given your geographical roots and mention that society is more patriarchial and more conservative in north historically. However, the evidence shows otherwise, the devdais still live on the other side of the vindhyas (Patriarchial) and only yesterday we witnessed photographs of people rolling over the left-over food of brahmins in a state famous for its temples and ironically that was not in north india (conservatism). You yourself contradict this point by saying that all the girls have been groped at point or another in india. If that is the case, south with its higher female-to-male ratio will have a higher incident of such events.

The bias is actually in your own mind. Grow up out of it.

And still most of the rapes in Delhi are reported in moving cars and in posh colonies. Are people from Up & Bihar driving those SUVs and living in those bunglows?

Sickening
by Lynette Wilson on Dec 03, 2011 11:30 PM

It's really sickening with so many of these men. I have also been groped before on the bus and even in crowded market places. Once in the bus, someone put his hand on my chest from behind and when I turned back I didnt know who did it. I think the best thing women should do is scream when someone starts groping.

While not being opposed to the article or the emotions of readers, Why women shall be respected in today's world?
The respecting the women was a chivalorous idea of middle age which expected women to stay at home aka chunnilal.
Girls will have to choose between equality and respect. They can't have the cake and eat it as well.

How Pathetic that except ispita no one could offer a constructive criticism of his views and just went personal talking about his mom & sis. Did he talk about anybody's mom or sis? And guys think they are showing their machoism. Come on Men, grow up, those who don't value the relationship of a man with females are more likely to grope as they dont value the consent of a female as well.

Despite that, they might not be inviting it from strangers. The idea is to show sexuality to malekind as a whole but reserving the right to select and give consent.

Law and order in a pathatic condition is the real grouping.
by Bala krishna on Dec 03, 2011 09:28 AM

It is unfortunate though we live in a civilized society the tendency to tease to women is not vanished, may be lack of education or so many reasons beyond comprehension, but the sufferer is the women lot is a tragedy on human Right.
As society is divided on Party policies and the state is under siege by the representative Government the Policing is lost the meaning hence the remedy is well within the sufferer depends on the circumstances alone.

I was one of the youth guilty of doing it - I feel bad now
by sumitsharma on Dec 02, 2011 12:12 PM  | Hide replies

Your article has reminded me of all the bad stuff that I had done - whenever I got even the slightest chance. It was more than 20 years ago - for almost 8 to 10 years (from high school till I got married), it was hard to get a chance and not to lay my hands on a girl or woman or touch my private parts against them in crowded train/bus. It had all gone away from my memory - but it call came back flashing at me after reading this article. I feel very guilty and bad for all that I did. I live in a Western country and I do not hear/see anything close to the level of eve-teasing that I had seen and participated in my youth. I feel so guilty today that I will be making substantial donation towards efforts highlighting this bad activity that definitely snatches innocence away from many girls and takes away freedom of women as they have to constantly watch out against such activities!

Good to see you regret. Teach your children and people around you to respect others. May be the next generation of girls and women will be free of this scourge.

Thanks so much for your comment! It's not easy to own up to behaviour like this. But it's only through reflection and sharing that things will change. Now you are part of the change! You can feel good about that.
