IFS training and ranks

very succint summary of the career trails of IFS .

i wish to see more joing the IFS : would a ARMY - like marketing campaign help or are we already overstaffed in IFS ? what about direct recruits to IFS like days of yore ? are there still instances where exceptional calibre is invited to joing IFS directly at mid / senior levels ?

India's Foreign Service Under staffed
by Kalyan Kumar on Sep 01, 2011 10:42 PM

There is a criticism that Indian Foreign Service is understaffed commensurate with India's size and global role. A Chinese paper observed that even Small Singapore has a more powerful foreign srervice bureuacracy. If that is true, correctives are needed to have a visible presence of India no matter how strenuous is the training as detailed in the article.

Good To know how we Train our Diplomats!
by D goel on Sep 01, 2011 05:02 PM

Dharmendra Goel,Pkl. afternoon 5pm,Thursday,Sept1, 2011.
It is good toread from someonefrom IFS himself how extended training is designed to let the young Probationer beadequately groomedto take the effective duties of the Ambassador who is as is said who lies for his country abroad with finesse.
I recall once hearing our important leader of Nehruvian Estt. Sri TNKaul saying what is Diplomacy: Protocol, Alcohol and, of course ,TN Kaul D. Goel

No amount of grooming can help the duds
by Ujwala Kulkarni on Sep 01, 2011 04:46 PM  | Hide replies

Since it is possible to write Civil Services Exams in a language other than English, English should be the first FOREIGN LANGUAGE to be taught. Lack of knowledge of English is what makes most IFS cut a sorry figure abroad. Traditionally one doesn't tamper with a success formula. But Indian diplomacy being a story of disastrous failure, the selection and training needs to be modified constantly.

All the occupations/positions are politically considered female genders, though not grammatically accurate. This trend is not only seen in India but seen all over the world.
