One of the noticeable changes that occurred in India after it partially adopted the free market economic policies of the Nineteen Nineties, is the mushrooming of engineering colleges in every nook and corner of the country.

by vaishali sharma on Jun 08, 2013 07:41 PM

I am interested to do engineering but I am confuse about the branches. Lot of people have told me the number of branches there are in engineering. But I want to know which branches are now in demand and which will have more scope in future.

specialsing branch at btech level

even if u are going 4 a specialization branch look out for d companies who r recognising it as a branch for their recruitment process. e.g. production engg might not qualify in a job application where mechanical engg fits in eventhough a production engg mught possess all d theoretical knowledge of a mechanical engineer, likewise a petrochemical engineer might not land in a job open 4 a chemical engineer eventhough he might consider himself to be a full fledged chemical engineer.

Electrical Engineering is mother of all modern day engineering like Electronics, Computer and Robotics so Daughter of NRI Jayant Naralikar did B Tech Electrical from IIT Mumbai even she got Electronics she changed her discipline with Ratnadeep Ratnakar Palshetkar mutually and RRP got Electronics and She got Electrical and she must be PHD by today?

Specialization isn't that good!

Specilized courses like polymer engineering, automobile engineering can do more harm than good. The scope and opportunities in those courses could be very low and after graduation, one might find with less opportunities in selecting the companies, location, PG courses etc. It makes sense to go more general courses like electrical, mechanical or electronics than say industrial, instrumentation etc. Super specialization is better done at PG level and candidates will be at a better position to understand their preferences, overall scope of the courses etc when they are 22 than when they are 18 and have no clue about each strem in depth.

As Amod said, almost everyone lands up in a software company these days, but you have no clue what the situation will be like when you pas out after 4 years.
