Do not mix academic institutions and fashions
by Rambabu on Aug 11, 2011 08:56 PM  | Hide replies

Educational institutions are not supposed to be places of knowledge and learning, not venues to flaunt fashion garments, except of course in the case when the institution itself offers courses in that branch of knowledge and when fashion trends become part of such an institutions curriculum.

It is agreed that a certain amount of contemporary styling and design goes into the making of any garment which can be put on inside a college campus. But still, exotic varieties of fashion clothes and flaunting such styles are contradictory to atmosphere of any educational institution, especially those colleges which enroll both male and female students. A certain amount of moderation in dressing and confining oneself to decorum is always required to maintain the sanctity of an academic institution, and to present oneself in a modest way to others, rather than dressing with an objective to become a target of all attention.

The above may sound oppressive and policing kind of argument on younger generation, and will generally be met with criticism, dismissals and harsh cross arguments. While arguments may be woven to contradict the above, across the country several colleges are imposing dress codes on students, banning such outfits like jeans etc., because the experience of these college managements has taught them what could be the influence of exotic fashion clothing on campus discipline.

Bad subject: what is wrong in exposing, including nudity ?

Morality has to do with human behavior and especially the harmful intentions against others. It has nothing to do at all with the skin of human beings or its visibility. A murderer covering up their entire skin does not thereby become less of a bad human being.

Associating clothes with morality is sheer hypocrisy and interference with freedom of individual. Civilized societies have to be free of restrictions on exposing n public.

Same argument applies to "sex" substituted for "skin" above.

These are ancient hypocrisies inherited and passed on without a thought about their actual validity and the great harm done to the advancement of freedom of the individual, which also ultimately affects material advancement. True and absolute freedom permits free and scientific thought, which leads to material progress.

Rediff must not post such blatant lies...who told you guys that these are the "in-fashin" ones......who are these fashion designers to tell me what to wear anyway.....The Indian youth should build up their own individual likes and dislikes , rather than follow what the fashion designers "tell" u to wear.

You should be your own master and should not someone "boss" u like this!!!
