All these should be branded Reserved Category IIMs
by ratan goswami on Oct 04, 2010 08:31 AM

In India the intelligentsia is now going to degrade becoz u will have now IIM opening in villages and students and teachers will be of students whose merit will be 20 marks/10 marks coming by virtue of reservations.
Then these will become akhada of reseved category politics clouted by Mayawati/lalu and Mulayam.
Have you guys forgot when the EX chief justice of India passed a verdict for IIT 3 students of reserved category failing for last 3 years and the dean has asked them to leave.
His verdict is keep them there till the day/year they pass give them special coaching.
This is where this Congress will take this country and then with teh caste census being done soon you will have all caste demanidng IIM and IIT for them in their surname.

Dilution of the Brand IIM and IIT!
by nisha thoas on Sep 29, 2010 05:36 PM  | Hide replies

IIT and IIM are renowned institutes not just in India, but all over the world. Their standrads of excellence meant that only the creme de la creme, or the countrys best aspirants could get through. Now, even whos someone whos not up there with the best can hope for one of the IIMs. The govt should have first improved the stds of the existing engg colleges as there are so many dubious ones everywhere. Infact around 50 odd in blore itself!! Most without good staff and facilities. And even if they had to start new, why did it have to be an IIT? Couldnt they find another name?

IITs and IIMs are the names they are not because of their state-of-the-art curriculum or world class faculty or innovative teaching methods, but because its so difficult to get into them. From the millions who apply, only a select, very small percentage gets in, the creme de la creme of the Indian student body of that year. The reason the IITians or IIMites succeed later in life is because they were very good to begin with, not because their institutes armed them with some special knowledge. All that the IITs and IIMs give their students is a good placement opportunity and a better start in life than the students of other institutes. And that, again, is the reason for their popularity.

With the caste based census this will be worse.
All sections and caste will have their iit and iim

I guess we have very high expectations from iit iim guys but is it justified? these institutions are just like any dumb institutions except the peer group is unmatched in energy creativity and passion. some always do well and rest are just chaff. Lets have reasonable expectations from them... there is a lot of media hype which actually doesn't help!!

Always IIT's and IIM's they come up with flash, Govt has opened premier institutes in pharmacy, still they have to get a permenant director. The existing directors are from all different backgrounds, however they are greats. One thing which hurts management and technical institutes grow and develop rapidly, it is dead against in pharmacy. Why this difference.

Everywhere else, major universities and research centers are established away from major cities - to help develop under developed areas. Going by the mindset of Indian administrators Sandia Research labs, NASA and all major universities should have come up near New york city, Chicago or Los-Angeles.

Columbia was founded in 1754.. Harvard in 1636 .. It was much later that it dawned on policy makers to locate educational and research institutions in remote areas as a way to develop those regions... Boston definitely is a good example of what great educational institutions can do to the region.

MIT,harvard,BU,Tufts are all in the greater boston area.nothing wrong in having univs in the middle of a city.It improves the local economy.
Its also good in a way.students will be in touvh with day to day activities instead of staying away from humanity.they interact with local people and its like dealing with a lot of people everyday.

Also the good point is that there is no campus wall. You can see all univ buildings on main road itself.

I think its an enriching experience for students being able to interact and meet with day to day life.
