BPOs may not be perfect, just like most industries. BUT, they provide jobs to 12 Pass, Graduates etc. - This opportunity was clearly not available earlier.
We should be thankful for their existence, there are lakhs, and crores(if u include dependents) people who benefit from existence of such large scale employer. guys, i have seen guys after B.Sc. tech from UDCT working for rs.1800/- p.m. this was the conditions of these higly qualified persons around 1993-95. we should be thankful to this BPO jobs tthat mearely 12th class stundt with good english is paid above rs.10,000/-. what was worth of lakh of gruates in india before BPO era. okay do not blame BPO sicne they have solved unemployemnt in india.
Well friends, our mental preparedness and rationality is the need of the hour! By another 5 years down the line, all IT,ITe and BPO jobs will be going to be snatched by the China. Then what is left in India? We capitalise the situation and utilise the opportunity prevailing in Indian BPO Industry.d

No way, It can happen. China's expertise lies somewhere else it is capable of providing cheap goods throughout the world. But when it comes to back office and services it has to be India. India's english speaking and graduate population is enormous compared to China.

The only people who get offended when you call a pluutt a pluutt is a pluutt or wannabe pluutt or an ex-pluutt. Anyone else who isnt a pluutt wouldnt care. Or perhaps they are dating one. Or perhaps they were one. But anyone else wouldnt care. This is the true reason no one wants to admit. Deep down we all know this is the truth.
Making young people to work only in night shifts is nothing but criminal. The labour departments in the country have become useless; they are turning a blind-eye to criminal practices of the BPOs. They have become blinded by the desire for revenue. Have they run any studies regarding working in night shifts for years? If they cannot do it those who join has to help themselves. I suggest following before joining BPOs. 1. Ask for at least half the working days in morning shifts. If they cannot give that ask for 4-day week. They should not be allowed to encash those. There should be compulsorily only 4-day weeks plus other benefits like cashual leaves and earned leaves and holidays. 2. Unionise. Approach the unions if your target is inhumanly possible. There should be government inspectors to check the complaints regarding heavy workload. The workload is also used as a political weapon against those the managers dont like.
This should also be included in the conditions that should be imposed on those who want to start BPOs and those who want to continue them.

There is a much simpler solution - if you don't like QUIT. You are not a forced employment, you are free to leave - ITS YOUR RIGHT.

Most important thing is that the job is not forced slavery. It is optional. If you love it take it or leave it.Night shift is not a permanent thing. The duty time changes according to rotation. The whole idea of offering this job to India is to make use of the 24 hours available in a day. It is not only BPO employees work night shift. People working at airports, hospitals, railways, factories and many other fields they work night shift to make the life of others safe and useful. The only problem is that many who complain are seen only government employees coming to office at 10.30am and leaving at 4.00pm!What do they contribute to the society...except eating the tax payers money.BPO employment create jobs for our young people, many of the could not have any professional degree, and earn huge amount of foreign investment which help the economy.

Who is forcing someone to work on night shift? If not willing then take up other option that allow day time working. 1)5 days week itself is a culture came up due to IT & BPO.. consider other private firms have 6 day week. See what happens in retail sector. 2)Most people work 10 hrs a day. Its overloaded but thats the norm. if govt can put inspectors why cant they put some to check that govt employees work atleast 8 hrs per day . why check only on overload why not on underload also. 3) Night shift is a pain agreed. but the very fact these jobs are outsourced to india is for these benefits. If india dont do it it will go to other places like philipines or malaysia or other low cost . Yes we have a choice of either doing or not doing it. Services are required when customers are awake .If we cant provide it someone else will.. 4)On humanitarian grounds u r right .. Did we ever consider the working conditions of our coal mine workers or for that matterthe construction workers ? Arent they also inhuman conditions ?

nicely said we are only concerned about only a few but there a numerous sectors in our country where working conditions are inhuman and all rules ignored
Infosys makes only 2% money from selling software. 98% money they made by selling consulting viz bribing clients, exploiting engineers and manipulating stock prices.

Better than Axe N Chor....make 20% by screwing its employees and 80% by fooling and taking clients for a ride...High performance in footpath politics. Delivered Garbage
I see a lot of negative comments, probably by people who are techies, and hence they feel that they operate in a superior world.Well, i am one too, but dosent mean that BPO is all about voice based calls telling people how to fix their cameras and washing machines. There is a lot of process based work in fields like law, banking, medical transcriptions which are outsourced by some prestigious firms abroad. And the successful ones are rewarded as good as the software engineers, if not better. Sure there are nightshifts, but I have engineering friends putting in 12 hr shifts regularly. It has given employment to millions, esp ordinary Bsc,BA grads from no-name colleges, and whats bad about that? Please understand that we are still a developing country and there are not enough cutting edge research work for all the grads in India. If they are happy with their choice, why are we moaning?

@Nisha.
well no buddy is moaning but its certainly that somebody is making too much of noise about a by product.
Cutting edge research, have u been to Biocon, what is ur comments on that.
Regarding Job opportunities,no one from this so called BPO industry has ever said that this industry has careerist growth,Its a stop-Gap always.
Successful ones are rewarded than why Raman Roy keeps on Changing, why is he not sticking with that he started?
Regarding what ur personal choice,we are less interested, what we are interested that if u have ever been to USA, someone made a film called "SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE" & everyone keeps asking that is that ur place as we are all from Slumbai.
And the next irritating is this BPO, its has made so much of noise that peoples in USA thinks everyone works for so called BPO.
We know u peoples are great but please don't make our life hell for ur so called BPO.
