People like you are a ray of hope
by vinay dhauni on Sep 17, 2010 08:44 AM

there will be millions of people who would strive hard for the luxury and their so called self centered needs but only one in million like you would ever be remembered and find a place in heaven. I give a call to all the people who are settled abroad and are at mercy of the foreign people who always treat them as inferior and abusing their existence for whatever reason they feel, to come back home and look at the pity situation of our own countrymen who always look forward to us to help them get out of their condition. I again salute you to have invested your idea for your own people. God bless you.

trip
by Dev on Sep 17, 2010 08:08 AM  | Hide replies

frm my recent trip in south, i can see that situations have improved a lot..esp in kerala, where poor are all having houses and land.
chennai ,too is looking good and it will lead TN into advancement.
the fact ,to my eyes is that Bengaluru looks terrible and i can say Karnataka seems lagging.(i know that there is IT but the place looks a dump and many poor, aimless people)
hopefully in few years rest of India will also reach a higher selfsufficient level ..with help of such like Rustam.
it can be done..AND MUCH FASTER..but it seems ppl are BLIND AND DONT KNOW THE WAY AHEAD..

If you connect the dots, then it seems most of the poor ppl have moved out from Kerela to Karnataka in order to get a livelyhood.

Rustom's effort
by Dilip Mahanty on Sep 17, 2010 06:19 AM  | Hide replies

It is very encouraging that young, upwardly mobile executives are getting their hands dirty to bring succour to the myriads of people in India ignored by the politicians, babus and business magnates. Hats off to these enterprising and socially conscious youths. They are a great credit to the country! Hope such people rise up one day and rule the country instead of corrupt and rapacious politicians and babus who are ravaging the country and suppressing its potential.
Good work Rediff presenting such uplifting stories! It will also be good if you gave the contact details so that people could contribute financially to such efforts!

Few Notes
by mohammed arif on Sep 17, 2010 04:11 AM  | Hide replies

I do really appreciate the effort being made by rustum, which indeed gives all of us a thought to contribute for such a gud cause...but there is a problem.
1)Being a finance guy, he didnt do his homework of starting a social service which wud last long enough.
2)Was it a compulsory to leave the job and put all time in it.A clever person wud still continue his job and run such a non-profit organisation. Common, organising things and a website creation isnt big thing now a days.
3)If he had delegated the job, monitoring it from overseas, he could have helped it by his 50% salary without being running out of money anytime.
4)who is going to bear the cost of water filter candles, we know that after 1 month such filter candles need to be replaced. Mosquito net and solar light is gud but filter tank is not maintenance free.
5)I hope rustum did his maths and advertising ways to attract 1 million ppl, if not wat?

anyways, i respect his feelings but for a lasting venture, one needs to be more practical along wid being emotional.

Mohammed Arif,Have you EVER done (or have even TRIED to do) something to help a lot of people, like Rustam is doing?
1. You seem to be very smart... why don't you do some homework and start a social service which would last long enough.
2. Most probably you are a working professional... why don't you give it a try by continuing to do your current job and start a non-profit organisation...afterall, common organising things and website creation isn't big things nowadays.. right?
3. Why don't you start something like Rustam has done and then delegate the work by giving 50% of your salary. You will just have to monitor it and everything will work out.. right?
4. You seem to be the smartest guy in the whole world. Why don't you think of a product or idea which is maintenance free and wouldn't cost anything EVER after the initial expenses? Seems very easy for you.
5. Looks like you are very good at maths... why don't you do some maths and come up with innovative ways of advertising to attract a lot of people.

From your post, it looks like you can do it all and its very easy for a brilliant guy like you. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, don't waste your talent.. do something for poor people of our country.
Who needs people like Rustam... we should focus on people like you. Right?

Kaushal,

I felt Mr.Arif was not criticizing Rustam's efforts. He has raised some valid points some thing that a VC would ask if Rustam approaches them for funding. I dont understand the need of sarcasm in many of our comments. Why cannot we have a valid debate about stuff? Why should a different thinking always be construed as an object for ridicule?

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
by reetesh maitra on Sep 17, 2010 03:41 AM

This country needs more people like you with a vision. somehow when we look around and see polititians draining this country for their own conceited benefits. when you see people hoarding crores by unjust means and which is draining the exchequer out , it looks as if all is lost. but people like you make me belive that that there there still hope for this country and all is not lost. good luck and god bless.
