Salute to Guru

"It is time to remember our teachers who moulded us as what we are to day on the eve of this "Teachers Day"(5th September).I feel very nostalgic of my school days & my school teachers.

The teacher pupil relationship, unlike,as in these days of commercialisation of education, used to be considered as very holy like that of a father & son AND precisely for this reason the following Sansnskrit sloka became very popular:
"Gurur Vishnuh,Gurur Brhmah.
Guru Devo Maheshwarah,
Gur Saakshaath Parabrahmah,
Thasmai Shri Gurave Namah"

Such was the respect paid to the teacher who is the mentor of his pupil. Those were the days when the teacher had lot of respect for his student & the latter lot of reverence for his "Guru".It was a selfless service rendered by the Guru in return for which the pupil/ disciple was required to give nothing except to bring name & fame for his mentor.History is replete with several instances where ,when insisted by the disciple,Gurus rarely expressed their will of "Guru Dakshina"to be offered. And when once Guru expresses his desire, there was no question of going back for the disciple-come what may.In the process,we come across Lord Krishna who went to the world of "Yama"(Death) & brought back the life of his "Guru's(Saanddapani Maharshi) son,Arjuna

Arjuna who brought King Drupada who once insulted his Guru "Droanaachaarya" as captive & submitted to his "Guru"AND the famous "Ekalavya, though not accepted by his Guru considered the latter as his mentor in the mind itself, worshiped his idol & also submitted his right hand toe with which alone one can invoke his "asthras" learnt as part of his archery education. In contrast to these luminaries,it is unfortunate that we have "Gurus" who would not hesitate to sell their education for a price & also pupils who would not go back to do any harm including use of force on their "gurus"if the event of their demands not being met.

I gratefully acknowledge the teachings & the values taught by my "gurus"-especially my school teachers-prominent among whom are Shri "Pulusu Gopi Reddy" who is still popular with his pen name"Pogi"and late S/Shri Y.K.sastry (Yaddanapudi Kodanda Rama Satry),the then Head Master of our great school -AVV High School,Warangal who epitomized discipline ,my beloved Telugu teachers- late Hariradha Krishna Murthy who is responsible for all my love & liking for Telugu literature and late Vishwanadha Satyanarayana(none other than one of the two

younger brothers of late Kavisaamraat Vishwanaadha Sathyanaaraayana) whose melodious rendition of the Telugu poems still echo in my ears ultimately leading me take up the mammoth rendition projects of Telugu poetry-say like that of the entire "Pothana Bhagavatham",Sreemadraamaayana Kalpa Vrukshamu"etc.Whenever I remember my school teachers tears roll in my eyes & feel that I cannot redeem their debt of moulding me as what I am today. It is the basic foundation laid by them which made me learn whatever I know today. Though our Gopi Reddy Sir was a task mater & believed in the proverb- "spare the rod & spoil the child"I still discreetly remember the boundless affection he showered on me as his pet student. How can I forget his decision of postponing the monthly test to some other date just because I happened to be absent on that day due to ill health? How can I forget the incident of awarding full marks to my answer to a wrong question inadvertently?I cannot also forget the incident of his being also harsh / impartial & punishing me by a flashy slap when I was not listening to what he was teaching but was paying my ear to the rendition of Telugu poem by "Vishavwanaatha"?
My teachers are/were simply great & I wish to be born as their disciples in the future births too.I salute them respectfully"

It seems that this was his passion probably. It all depends upon what one likes and dislikes.
