WHY DO YOU THINK, THERE WAS NO FORMAL EDUCATION. CONSTRUCTING TEMPLES REQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE SHILPASHASTRA, WHICH THE ANCIENTS FIRST ELUCIDATED AND THEN, PASSED ON TO BE FOLLOWED BY TEMPLE BUILDERS INCLUDING THE MEDIEVAL GANGAS. WERE YOU EQUATING ONLY PRESENT DAY CERTIFICATE/DEGREE HOLDERS AS POSSESSING 'FORMAL EDUCATION'. THAT WOULD BE WRONG.
The Mathematics, the arts, the cultures, the messages behind this this temple is incredible. The sad death of 10 year old Dharama is a case study in Havard University. That is the philosophy of sacrificing one person to rescue 1200 others...
Taj Mahal is junk when you compared with Konark Temple. Taj mahal is built by a king for his selfish purpose while temples is built for public which helps to project the social values.
It is a well known fact that lot of mathematical ideas originated simultaneously at different places independently. To state that temples in india are carbon copes of pyramids is stretching things a bit too far. If you depend on marxist historians then god save you. I read romila thapars book on ancient indian history and she seems to think that since there were no archealogical evidences the IVC had nothing worthwhile to show off and we just copied things from the west. How easily she concludes (without much evidennce) that the aryans invaded and destroyed IVC. Of course the proportion of bricks used in IVC, the geometric vedic altars are just accidental right? I also would like to know facts not marxist history

If mathematical ideas originated smiltaneously at differenr places, dont you think it is much more than a bit of a coincidence if they were all independent of each other?
