India can make a frog jump if the CSQ: Civic Sense Quotient can be improved. The read, booted, suited need to demonstrate their 'CSQ' and be role models for the lesser privileged.
On the Air, 'MDs or high ranking people of the corporate' just can't switch off their mobiles. The air hostess makes request in English, Hindi.......what other language will help our 'high positioned executives to demonstrate their CSQ?
Delhi was decked up primarily to attract the tourist for CWG. If one has been to other decent international cities, then Delhi is no exception. Still a long way to go for Delhi. The local administration there has to pull up their socks and gear up to meet the public expectations. Corruption has to be weeded out of the system and more accountability brought in to make the same more transparent and efficient.
Delhi is the seat of bureaucracy/ politicians and crony capitalism (meaning business success only by gaining favor with politicians/bureaucrats).
If India is to develop, if tax money has to be spent meaningfully, all this pampering of Delhi of creating a fake showcase should be stopped forthwith.

The history of the country, the world, the earth is a lot older than mughal, mongol or any other invasions----which btw is how countries were formed, cultures were developed and people got the opportunities to grow. the article is about why this is a great time to be in a city that has invested a lot in its infrastructure. Wake up and smell the roses---cause if you keep looking for ashes of the past---you'll only end up with a sour outlook on life and before you know it pessimism would have overtaken your ability to enjoy life and its gifts.
Nice article. I look forward to being there soon! Delhi (like India) is a smorgasbord of tradition/modernity/colors and culture! Good job Harnoor!

I vote for being realistic. Ability to differentiate sh*t from shinola. Just like pessimism baseless optimism leads to complacency and eventual downfall.
