I agree 100%

I fully agree with Kapil Sibal. If we want to get ahead or even catch up with world research in various sectors, then we must follow the US model and invest heavily in world class research. Not only invest, but we must hire the right kind of people (some of them from foreign universities)to carry out world class research.
There is a lot of politics involved during our hiring process. Internal candidates should not be given preference over a well qualified person having a degree from US or UK. This is needed if we want to bring in fresh ideas and enthusiasm in our research programmes. Indians who have foreign degrees should be encouraged to apply for the research positions and should be given preference.

UPA ministers

At least there is one ministry in UPA who has the will and determination to do something good for its people (may be in their own way). We should be happy for that.

Strengthen the root first Mr. Sibal
by Manoj Dev on Oct 12, 2010 03:05 PM

Does Sibal have any idea as to how to get or make teachers? What is the standard of teaching in the numerous 'universities' that have sprung up? Increasingly we find - MBAs, BEs etc. rising in numbers and their emplyoabilty declining as rapidly. Doubtful whether Sibal has basic understanding of the education culture and systems in the country. He is viewing education from his upper-class background perspective, even more damaging than his predecessor.
So far none of India's education ministers (now HRD) ever have done anything comprehensive to strenghthen the base that is school education. It is not even standardized throughout the counntry. Sibal is no exeception, he sadly fails to appreciate - his US obsessed reforms in higher education is useless for the wider population of the country unless quality education is imparted at the school level. In Sibal's policies and practices education of children of ordinary people of the country is yet to receive any place beyond occasional noise.

Indian Education System

What we need to ensure that there is good quality education imparted at the lower level rather than trying to upgrade the post graduate level of education. More importance should be given to the method of teaching at lower level. Let's not create more clerks in India. First of all the competency of the lower level teachers should be enhanced by either imparting training. And the teachers at lower level should be paid well to attract quality man power.

1) We are programmed to do jobs for bread & butter.so we can not achieve more than our efforts.
2) there is huge gap between our competancy and what we do with it due to corrosion and errosion,
3) We are reactive ,and mostly want to proove how we are always right.

Sibal Sir one request
by Ranga Swamy on Oct 11, 2010 11:04 AM

Sibal sir very good idea to imitate US, but only for things that are good for the society such as "only 2 terms for highest office", "zero tolerance for anti-nationals". If you really care for India, let us see some initiative in that direction and finally, One small request "just leave things that are working well alone".
