Using fairness creams means you have inferiority complex
by Raju on Nov 30, 2010 12:49 PM

Yearning for fair skin will always leave you with inferiority complex as you can never be as fair as Europeans. Wanting to be fair means you are not comfortable with your own color which means you already feel inferior.
People who are self confident and believe in their own abilities wont care about these petty things. These things apply only to insecure people who feel getting fairer will make them better.

A complex
by Harish Menon on Nov 30, 2010 12:36 PM  | Hide replies

Yearning for fair skin is a sign that not only have Indians not gotten over the inferiority complex instilled in us by the subtly racist Europeans, but today we suffer form a misplaced sense of achievement by seeking to beat the fair-skinned people at their own game!

What else explains the increasing market for fairness creams. Earlier once could attribute it to women's vanity. Now even men are being wooed by cosmetic majors by claiming that being fair is better.

Where are the Indian nationalists, who claim to take up the cudgels on behalf of "Indians" at the drop of a hat? Why aren't they voicing their opinion against such racist tendencies? Or is it that they don;t see any political gains accruing form this as it would from artistes, dissenters and other intellectuals?

They ignore it as they think it's a minor problem

It's not spread to the smarter part of India (rural India) yet.

Correction: Where are the self-proclaimed nationalists, who claim to take up the cudgels on behalf of "Indians" at the drop of a hat? Why aren't they voicing their opinion against such racist tendencies? Or is it that they don't see any political gains accruing from this as it would from bashing up or targeting artistes, dissenters and other intellectuals? Or is it that they don't see any political gains accruing form this as it would from artistes, dissenters and other intellectuals?
