Ant's Philosophy
by Vetaikurumugankao Ramanathan on Nov 26, 2010 04:33 PM

A small and brisk creature, but a wonderful and great message. Even if one of the four lessons is implemented in practice, great achievement will be the result. V.K.Ramanathan, Thane West.

And the queen ant doesn't kill ants from its own group, like our criminal CM of Guj did.

missed the biggest point
by Devdutt Nayak on Nov 26, 2010 02:38 PM  | Hide replies

Being an MD, he is a thorough corporate.
Corporate motivation needs people to be selfish.
So he missed the biggest: Co-operation.

The problem with motivational philosophies coming from managers is that these are centered around making you pursue individual success, rather than community success.

I versus We.

Devdutt Pattanaik has given a brilliant speech about 1 big difference in Western and Eastern lifestyle - they are individualists, we are socialists.

They think I, my life, my career, my pleasure, my happiness, my benefit.

Before Indians were force-fed Western philosophy (mid 1800s), we used to think We, our society, our happiness, our pleasure, our security, our benefits.

We are a high-context culture - some things are known to all of us, which need not be stated and are not, when we talk with each other.

Theirs is a linear, low-context culture, where everything is step-by-step, sequential, where assumptions are stated clearly.

Americans say 'I believe this so I do this'
We say 'This is how it's done, right?'

So while giving the example of the ant, scientists/philosophers first note the social behaviour of ants.

And what do managers do?
They tell everything except the most important ant USP - cooperation.

Google succeeds on internal cooperation, NOT competition. USA, Germany, UK, Japan were built or rebuilt on cooperation.

Today, USA stands destroyed by lack of regulation and cooperation. (free market)

Do not strain your worthless brain too much. To put what he has said, in simple words - Secret to success of ants is cooperation.
