MBAs
by Tom Dick on Nov 29, 2010 08:52 AM

This qualification may help future managers to drive their companies on a growth path. There are many 'family' business where there is no qualified managers to take it forward. These MBAs might help it to grow by M & A , going public etc. The down side is that they are also capable of making minor things into very complicated business and there by collapse the whole business. What worries is the umpteen number of 'hole in the wall' colleges offering this course which is not even worth the paper it is written. So aspiring candidates must opt for best and reputed colleges which impart quality education. Otherwise one will end up as door to door salesman with an 'MBA' !

One of my friend is MBA but fails to give presentations, a primary requirement.

How did he pass that course then? Just by writing answers?

mba is not about presentations. If you teach a village guy management he may not be able to give presentation but he can start a venture. Even a dumb and deaf can do mba successfuly. We in india conduct GD for admission not in USA. USA produces better managers.

MBA CULTURE
by Sasidharan Nair on Nov 26, 2010 07:10 AM

MBA courses took India to a different culture for about three decades or so. Institutions got mushroomed at large scale; with inadequate teaching facilities. Many of the Institutions, lying low, impart the courses not for creating value based education but to make money as their main motto. And they bring out successful MBAs without even having basic know-how of management techniques! In the result, quality is made to suffer! University level control measures are not evidenced to improve the standard of education. Passing out the MBA is very easy; with money playing pivotal role in any situation. In short, MBA recognises money power in many institutions below the level of IIMs. HRD Ministers have the role to play in arresting this menace. Will they do it?

Make experience mandatory for admission
by s rangan on Nov 26, 2010 06:43 AM

THe real problem is students do not have any idea about what they are learning. In most of the cases, they consider MBA an extension of their graduate course. One way to sort the problem is to have a mandatory work experience before joining MBA. The work experience will atleast show the process flow in an organization

MBA Education in India

All MBAs(other than from Top insitutons) are moslty working in Insurance, banking, real estate sector for a lesser salary -as they qualify for that only. 50% students can't speak english fluently. All because of government's wrong policies.

IIM takes mostly IITians ......
by Reportabuse on Nov 25, 2010 06:46 PM

IIM is most sought after!but IIM tales only IITians !This is fact! But this deprives Nation of good Technical brains and make them mere adminstrative managers! All MBA's except IIM FMS or XLRI or mushroom of MBA colleges do not mean a good placement!MBAs doing clerkal work mostly !

Rethinking MBA education in India

Many of the MBA colleges were started with the aim of utilising the available infrastructure [in many cases these are already established engineering colleges]. Hence, the main idea is to make profit as far as possible. The cost cutting is revealed by the presence of good faculty. They won't get good faculties by paying peanuts [Remember:"If one pays peanuts, only monkeys will be available". There is huge gap between the MBA graduates & employability - as demanded by the industry.
