wise golden words that need to be memorised

"But the opportunity cost had become so big for them now that letting go of what they had become was very difficult for them.

I was at an advantage. All I had to do was let go of my secure consulting job."

This is what the real NGO guys think like.

"The needs of the many outweight the needs of the few."

This is true rational thinking.

Most people who think they are rational, believe that it is rational to be selfish.

Wrong.

Rational thinking demands that you do not attach greater weight to your unit over other units.

If your sacrifice can benefit 100 other people, choose that if you are rational.

If you choose your own benefit, you are selfish and not rational.

Selfishness is merely instinct, so it is irrational by definition.

We are ape brains (eg. Men/Women look handsome / beautiful even if they sweat/stink and so on).
We need to put mental effort to be rational all the time. (eg. "He/She looks good but he/she is not good at programming.")

We need to actively fight mental laziness and think to even get the correct value estimate for a bottle of sauce, or a chocolate or a pair of jeans, attractive clothes, etc.

We also need to exert mental effort of logical thinking to think beyond self-preservation instinct which is hard-wired in us.

That is why we need *training* in fire drills, for example.

Selfishness is irrational.

For example, Tukaram Omble was the most rational cop in his group on that day.

We miss this fact.

Tukaram Omble thought fast and thought straight.

That was rational.

The other three who pursued the terrorists were also quite rational, but they could not succeed - whether due to sabotage or misfortune.

He has obviously shown that he can stand out from the rest of the crowd...now can he resist peer pressure and hold on to what he is doing?? It can get very very difficult to be non materialistic when your friends are ambitious........

This guy is most cunning of them all
by Amresh Sharma on Nov 11, 2010 12:51 AM  | Hide replies

This guy is most cunning of them all. He know there is a big opportunity and money lying in the undeveloped villages in India and he will start a company with an NGO tag, get support from great people's like Kalam, Narayana Murthy et al. then will show his true self by sucking poor peoples blood.

Yes, if you think you have seen a similar guy he is none other than Vikram Akula of SKS microfinance. Who started his company as NGO, got support from Narayana Murthy and now gone for an IPO and giving loans to poor people with an interest rate as high as 30% !

If you went to IIT or IIM, then it is obvious that you are trying to defend your institution and your ego. But if you didn't study there (and still commenting here), you are one of the biggest dumbs.

Come out of the sht wole and see the big picture. Studying in those institutions are not called achievements. First learn what an "achievement" means.

Most IIT/IIM people only know how to suck money from the system or company they work for. First they suck govt money (as govt use huge amount of public money to fund those institutions). Then they suck the company they work for. While non-IIT/non-IIM people do the majority of works in those companies, the IIT/IIM guys get paid much higher (and faster hikes / promotions) only because they cleared JEE or GATE once in life. And all these discourage and insult those people who do the actual work.

Check the world ranking of universities in research and you will notice IIT/IIM are nothing even in Asia.

These people like Srijan' are the extra ordinary people who are passionate and clear about their ideas. APJ Abdul Kalam, what a great personality srijan has chosen to work with.

If these highly qualified and educated people will take the thread of nation (politics) in their hand, no one can stop india to become a super power.
