I am not an Indian but you guys need to learn before you speak or write. Tamil and Sanskrit are the only text with epigraphic records dated before 300 BC. It is also official languages here in Malaysia and also in Singapore. I am just appalled how many idiots in India have computer access to comment on boards to show their ignorance. There is a chinese saying "what goes into or comes out of your mouth causes you the most problem" in this case you mouth includes your typing as it refers to broader communication.
Indeed, after Sanskrit, Tamil is the oldest language of India. There is no doubt about this fact. Thirukkural of Thirvalluvar is at least 2500 years old. This magnificent literature has 133 chapters with 1330 verses. For more details, search Google. I don't know any Indian language, apart from Sanskrit, having any ancient literature which is over 2000 years old. Also, Tamil is a legendary language because it is not a descendent of Sanskrit, which is close to my heart as well; nor does it use any devanagari script. It is an independent language in its own class. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.
Coming to Tamilnadu producing high achievers. There is no need to defend this unnecessarily. Because any achievement from Tamilnadu is an achievement for the nation.

Yes there are many languages that are really ancient in India. Though Tamil is apparently the most ancient besides Sanskrit.

Yes , Tirukural is best literature in Tamil. The couplet style of composing exhibits "sence and simplicity" of Tiruvakkuvar.
Tamil nadu is one of the states still having Matriculation Board for 10th standard examination.
