Think beyond IIT & NIts also. This hype is in north India only. In south & maharshtra there are so amny other good institutes also who are as good as IIT/NIT e.g UDCT mumbai, VJTI Mumbai, SP college mumbai, Vivekanad mumbai, COEP, Pune, MIT Pune, PICT Pune, VIT pune, MIT Madras, VIT vellore, BITS, IISC banglore, RV college banglore, Many other good colleges also.
