The answer will depend on whhether and what pre-existing disease either one of them have. Here are a few pointers :

1) Take individual policies for both of them even if costs a little more because the unfortunate but inescapeable fact is that as we age the chances of having to make a claim increases. Also mortality looms and given that portability is not possible in any of the policies in India the surviving partner will find it difficult to get a policy in the future.

2) At that age the maximum renewable age is important as it will be difficult and if not impossible to get a policy later on.
3)Thirdly availability is also an issue as most companies shy away from providing policies for senior citizens on one pretext or the other (so your choice in practise may be limited to products that are tailor made for senior citizens).

Am not making specific recommendations on companies as that will , as i said, depend on the position on pre-existing disease.

yes you can go for max bupa health insurance . I will suggest you plz go for separate plan for you parents & if you will family floater for both then premium will be very high.the best thing of maxbupa is they have no any tpa & deals with the concerned people directly to settle the claim .I hope it will work for you.

Doctors are humans. If due to an error in judgement if the patient gets worse, you will pounce on the doc asking him why he did not make use of the facility available. They just play it safe and make good money...so why complain ?

Mediclaim companies will deny payment for a treatment.

Saying it is not necessary, suggest a alternative especially if it is cheaper than the treatment needed.

lairs are these companies and their agents.

Even accidents would have to be pre approved to get a reimbursement

Health Insurance queries.
by Prakash Aswani on May 19, 2010 07:10 PM  | Hide replies

The answers submitted by Apnapaisa to queries of policyholders are not comprehensive. Maybe they are only trying to push products of certain favoured insurance companies. Star Health & Allied Insurance also has a policy specific to the needs of senior citizens and is called Senior Citizens Red Carpet. This policy even covers pre-existing diseases (without any waiting period) and invites 30% and 50% co-payment.
Whilst it may be so that individual policies do not cover maternity benefits, it would be wrong to comment that abortions are also not covered therein. Depending upon merits of the case, abortions are also payable under individual policies...an example being abortions arising due to "ectopic pregnancy".
Rediff should cross-check before publishing one-sided views, as many readers take their word to be gospel.

Dear Mr. Aswani:
Star Health Red Carpet is not available where the age at entry is 70 years (it is available for first time entry only till 69 years). The questioner clearly stated he was 70 years old and hence Star Red Carpet is not available to him.

Apnapaisa is proud to be a completely non biased expert that assists conusmers to take infirmed decisions.

It would be nice if people check their facts and then make allegations about bias.

I have seen many times the insurance agents sold the policies( Mediclaim)to the client without explaining coverage of many diseases in the policy. Then at the time of claim TPA plays their role and deny the claim on many pretexts. One should be very careful dealing with TPAS.Alankrit is one example. They are very smart in denying the claims.so one should be very catuious.

The TPAs are the main people to create unwanted tensions. They do not give anything in writing. not anwer you properly over phone. Please get in touch with the Vigilsnce Officers of the respective insurance Company the policy you hold.
