PR is a passion
by GS Randhir on May 22, 2010 12:31 PM  | Hide replies

I beg to disagree with the views expressed about basic qualifications. All great PRs any where in the world never required any degree to prove their mastery over the job. PR is a passion, and once you get in to it, there is really no end to which you can grow. It is an age old profession, which is being practised by all successful people. They may not know the technical jargon, but without basic PR skill they would have remained unknown. So why insist on MBA. You only need to have the genuine interest in serving people and conflict management. That's all. You are on your way. By the way Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan is good enough to ignite that spark in you, and I have seen hundreds of them who got their kick from this premium institute.

PR as a career
by subhash pais on May 17, 2010 01:38 PM  | Hide replies

Some real pearls of wisdom on this board.

PR is one of the most exciting fields of work i have come across and must say that in todays day and age it is also one of the fastest evolving tools and unfortunately also the one that the industry does not know how to use.

As for the article it could have dug deep and gotten to the core of the profession. Perhaps Amrita is more of a writer than a PR professional.

Blunt knowledge of Ms. Amrita Bose about PR
by bc patro on May 17, 2010 11:15 AM

From the write-up, it seems that the contributor has a blurred knowledge about the institutions offering courses in PR. She has not been able to come out of the boundaries of western Indian institutions, the only exception is the Makhanlal Chaturvedi Patrakarita Viswavidyalaya. Perhaps, she doesn't know that at least 50 universitites of India offer Masters Degree or Diploma courses in PR.

Iota, my friend. Wish you had some iota of understanding of what you are saying. You have questioned four pillars that help a company survive in the market today. Yes, operations are important. But, what enables a company to stand out and survive amidst killer competition are just those 4 career lines you have carelessly dismissed

Who said u need only MBA degrees to hone up ur skills in pr, Marketing, Strategising and HR. I have done a diploma in PR from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and have been in this profession for the last 15 years. Iam presently working for a high profile PR agency and we work day in and day out. Unlike other profession we don't have a specified time to call it a day though we have a timeframe to enter the office premises. The pressure we take in I think is unthinkable for some who don't know our scope of work. Would request lota to refrain from making any comments about a profession you don't know.

you idiot, once your girl is career oriented, dont even think about having her for yourself.

Not being mean towards women, but just complimenting them in a manner for being independent.

And you BAD MAN, dont be possessive. And dont think even any relationship's forever.

One of the biggest pitfalls of this profession is your company treats you like a shit...some of the bosses don't know the difference between an advt and news. Advertisement can't replace a news item. Things really go bad when your boss tries to advertise the product though a Press release. He/she must understand that getting such a release published is a great challege for a PR person. Afterall, journalists/editors are no fools. A word of advice: People who have worked in the media previously should only consider working as a PR person. No use writing reams of releases and not able to get them published.
