My wife & me are supposed to be members of a SAIL-MEDICLAIM Co working arrangement. The validity of the scheme is from 1st JAN'10 to 31st DEC'10.Till now I don't posses any document to prove our bonafide as a claiment nor do we know which hospitals or OPDs should we visit in Calcutta to ensure valid claims.SAIL of course is totally apethatic to its superannuated employees, like any other PSU's but it is incumbent upon the concerned Mediclaim co.to provide us with the receipt of our payment, the coverage details, the medical centres where we are entitled to obtain our treatments, the promised cash-less card facility etc.We have lost 45% of coverage period and just managing with low-grade treatment facilities that we can afford with meagre retirement benefits. All our requests to SAIL management have fallen on deaf ears & the concerned Mediclaim co.is cooly pocketed a hefty 20,000/= premium took us for a ride.
Insurance Companies in India are Big @F@rauds, comparing to the few countries which i have visited, there a insurance is the one which will cover all the expenses including hospitalisation, medicines and the salaries of employees admitted and if any permanent injuries, chronic illness are covered. but in India the person Insured specially the mediclaim has to wait for 3 years in cases of chronic illnesses.

the american system is vastly different from the indian system of insurance. in america, health insurance is a welfare measure, unlike india, where there is only ESI scheme. michael moore's "sicko" is a tale of woes which, though poignant, does not highlight the real issue...state apathy towards the sufferers. if every insurer in america is bad, how do they continue to do business for decades together?

what do you work as .?? I think you are an insurance agent.
The Same practices that were shown in the film 'Sicko' are done by the companies , eg Bajaj Allainz etc. Pl z people save hard, exercise harder, eat healthier.
Especially if you have a family history of diseases.
Check yourself at a local lab, just a 1000 for most major tests.
For people above ages 50 should go for health checkups compulsory.
I had written to IRDA to first define the term "Disease". I think that any body ailment/pain which needs a doctor to cure should be called disease and be covered under a mediclaim policy. Why a treatment of dental/skin/aids etc. should not be covered under this policy. How many of you agree on this.

May be these diseases are contracted by ourselves more and could be avoided more than tthe one covered under the policies. Like, if any person consumes more chocolates, softdrinks, junk food, etc. he/she may be prone to cavities and gum problems. Similiarly, AIDS could get contracted by way of unsafe sex. It may also get contracted by unsafe medical accessories. However, it can not be proved that how it has got contracted. INSURANCE IS MEANT FOR "INDEMNIFICATION". That is to make the insured stand at a position where he was prior to the loss and not to make profit out of it and to help him in unforeseen circumstances. The above may be his own made. This is only a personal opinion and has got NO legal binding. Regards, Sameer.

Mr Girish
Well written comment...
However the Disease which you have mentioend such as dental & aids are not covered by any insurer world wide for many reason...and as for Skin...this is again a misuse....
insurance should be started early in life and should offer help in major cases not for a normal treatement.....If this to happen, the cost of insurance will be out of bound for every one...
One thing which I am struggling is to obtain a insurance for my parents and it seems no one offer anything for people aged 60 and nothing is available to last till 80 ??
I am 31 years old and emplyed in an International not-for-profit organization and located in Delhi. My organization offers insurance coverage which includes hospitalization up to Rs. 5 Lakhs per year. But it offers only for me. My wife who is 30 years old is not covered.
Hence, I am looking for a policy which gives us most of the medical benefit. I would like to cover individually up to Rs. 5 Lakhs.
Please suggest policies which will be appropriate for our requirement.

you may choose Star Health Policy of Rs 5 lakh for your better half and take a further top up of Rs 5 lakhs for both of you - This will ensure higher coverage at very much lower costs- ramji 9962012900
