mother's position in india
by bharath chandra on Aug 07, 2011 08:25 PM

If atleast 1% of the above news is true,we need to feel ashamed of it.Though we know that India is in the list of most developing countries,it is lacking behind in many real issues. So the day when India overcomes all such issues,it will be the king of whole universe. But i mentally gained some confidence that no leader in our country tries for the real development it.

I agree...
by Nishi Prasad on May 16, 2010 08:14 AM

I totally agree with this article.
We might compare woman to DEVI but in reality it is not so. A daughter in law is expected to take care of her husband, inlaws, and her children. She keeps sacrificing her wishes one after the other. When a child sees this right from his/her childhood how can he/her even think of respecting MOTHER. Her sacrifices are taken for granted...
Of course things are changing but it is a long way to go!!!!!

India is not a happy place for mothers
by Avaya sahoo on May 16, 2010 03:42 AM

It is only when the report comes we will wake up.Can't we see around what is happening .India is dominated by man everywhere ,house, office in govt policy and more over in our society .When the government wants to pass a bill to give equal privilege to womens in assembly ,we can see the opposition like lalu, mulayam reacted .It is because it will affect their domination .Our politicians are not interested in this report, rather they will tell it is baseless and framed to show India down .It is not only the health care only lacks,if we go for micro analysis mother's are always mentally tortured in the family ,sometimes by husband,mother-in law ,at times by their own son, daughter .Still Indian mothers are great because of their sacrifice ,love and adaptability .Instead of criticizing the report,we, the readers, come forward and introspect into our life where we can see the problems and try to minimize it and make India as a happy place for mothers .

Rediff.... what type of article is this ?
by Channveer Shetty on May 11, 2010 01:02 PM  | Hide replies

America is the happiest place for women and that too for mothers and not India.
In India you can be mother from one person mostly but in America you can be mother of thousands.;... therefore America is the happiest place for women.
Rediff... you do not have anything rather than this to publish ??? You are insulting our mothers on this auspicious day.

The basis of this study is westernized lifestyle and has nothing to do with the real facts.
all about propoganda nad media.

contraary to the report, i feel mothers in india or south east asian countries are better off than the western world. this my personal view.....

Read the report first; US is not the happiest place for mothers, its Sweden. And India is #74 among 78 developing countries, not all the countries in the world. And with sons like you who think this report is useless, its no wonder Indian mothers are not happy!

Why does media dont show these kind of Info
by prem anand on May 11, 2010 12:51 PM

We say we are competing with china and USA,but are our people happy? Access to basic education, healthcare, communication and transport is out or reach for millions and millons of our people.

Child & Women abuse are growing day by day.I dont want to sound negative. But these things needs to be addressed.

I'm happy that many billioanries are in india, but I'm very concerned about the people who die due to starvation.

God Save India !!

For your kind information, this study was not done by 'America', as you put it. And the study was divided between Developed countries, developing countries and least developed countries. US figures among the developed countries, but only at 18. And people in US are not saying the study is useless, rather they are wondering how, as one of the richest and most powerful nations on the planet, they are so low on the list of Maternal Welfare, and what they can do to improve! Its this thinking like yours that has made India languish at the bottom of such reports.

not sure why people expected india to be higher!
by p on May 11, 2010 06:10 AM

My ancestral village has a railway station, Phones, electricity for the last 30 yrs but it does not have a doctor trained to deliver babies. Women deliver in their homes. Health situation is so poor. Nobody checks the village water.
One of my friends working for government of india died from pregnancy related complication because she was stationed in a remote place. A healthy mother is not high on the priority list of people. Sadly the priority is counting how many people of what caste. Politicians fight for getting reservations for their people. Why don't those same politician make it compulsory for doctors trained in reserved categories to serve in Underserved areas for 15 years.
