miss UP or chandigarh is better than these..
wats going wrong with selection since many years now..
even priyanka chopra was from a small city.. but still won..
the problem is with the contest as its become more of a reality show which ends with miss india winners n losing focus on the quality n future goal

Assam youth beats poverty to crack civil services exam
by om shanti on May 09, 2010 06:31 AM  | Hide replies

Morigaon, May 8: Young Narayan Konwar from Assam who cracked the civil services examination this time with 119th rank had failed once in his Class 12 board exams and had secured a second division in Class 10. “Failure is the pillar of success,” Konwar told IANS outside his mud-thatched hut in Shyamkota village of Morigaon district, about 80 km from Guwahati. The road leading to the village is potholed. There is no electricity still in the entire Shyamkota area.
“We use to study with lanterns as there is no power supply, even now there is no electricity in my village,” Narayan said, as he is surrounded by a stream of visitors who came to congratulate him. His success story is remarkable - he gave up studies for at least six months while he was in Class 9 due to financial constraints. “My father, a primary school teacher, passed away while I was in Class 5. It was really tough for my mother to raise me, my two younger brothers, and my younger sister,” said Narayan, who ranked 119th in the merit list of the All India Civil Services Exams.
Financial hardship came in the way of studies. He got a second class in Class 10 and failed once in the school-leaving Class 12 exam. “But I was determined to do something in life. That helped me,” he said. Eventually, he completed his post-graduation in political science from Gauhati University with a first class. “My

“My priority was then to financially support my family. So I did a part time job in a college,” he said.
But with dreams in his heart to do something, he went to New Delhi for coaching to crack the civil services exams. “It was biting cold in Delhi, and I just had a thin blanket to protect me. I could not stay in Delhi for long due to financial reasons,” Narayan said. Having studied all along in the vernacular medium, Narayan said language cannot be a barrier for success. “Poverty, language, or even coming from a remote area, cannot be a hindrance to success if one is determined,” Narayan said. “I would like to really do something in life and for the society at large.” (IANS)

PFMI on ZOOM
by shalini prasad on May 06, 2010 04:44 PM

Since last year ZOOM has been showcasing the PFMI. It is presented more as a reality show than a beauty paegent. These girls are there to make their career as an bollywood actress, not to represent India in International paegents, hence you don't see any of these girls winning a international crown or making as an actress, take Tanushree Dutta for e.g. I don't even remember the names of girls who came after Priyanka..

Earlier we saw girls being jugded on their skills, IQ, beauty etc. Now from day 1 they are being taught how act and dance in bollywood flick.

Earlier they had passion for the larger goal and everything else came along. Now their passion is limited to becoming a bollywood queen hence the decline.

Agreed, jugding someone for beauty is questionable, but now the idea of PFMI itself has become questionable.

Beauty?
by VijayKumar Gopidi on May 04, 2010 12:41 PM

Bull Shit......BAN all the beauty contests. Everyone is beautiful on their own. Beauty cannot be judged by appearance......its giving a wrong message to the rest of the world basing a criteria to the term called BEAUTY. It varies on how u define and identify the term BEAUTY. What makes u feel u r beautiful? Ask urself this question, then u have a varied impression on urself than others. To me Beauty lies in the nature, beauty lies in the love, beauty lies in the good feelings, beauty lies in acheivements, beauty lies in truth etc etc. I'm confused on how people make others beautiful? Don't u feel u r beautiful? then contest in those stuff, u'll be recognised for that.......hahhahahahhaha.....I don't think beauties with legitimate contesting standards are beautiful enough to give the right message to this world. BAN BAN BAN all this shit.........

Miss India?

The girls are pretty average-looking, and unless they have sterling personalities and an IQ of over 130 at least, I doubt they'll stand anywhere. What they don't realize is that the X-factor is very important when going for any competition. Lara is not conventionally beautiful, but she had that spark that set her apart. Sush had a sharp mind and a way with words. Ash was just so pretty you were blinded to everything else. Priyanka has a presence; even at 18 she knew how to showcase herself the best way. These girls...I dunno...maybe the picture isn't telling the whole story, but I fail to see anything special in them. And what judges! What do Sania Mirza and Vijender Singh know about judging beauty pageants?

I completely agree with roopal Vaish
How can Sania Mirza and Vijender Singh judge anything about beauty paegeants when they themselves have to take advice for clothing... At Sania's marriage she got thimbs domn from designers os how can she be the judge
