New Business Advice
by John on Mar 31, 2010 09:08 AM  | Hide replies

The best advice I got regarding starting a business was: If you start a business just to make money you will fail. But if you start a business to add value, you are more likely to succeed.

Best of luck to all aspiring entrepreneurs. If India is to become a super power, we need more such people who create jobs.

Good Luck!

Good Luck!

I wish those who are trying to pull you down on this message board thinks for a minute. So what if it may not be "original" idea as per you, so what if it may not make sence to you, so what if it may not make money according to you - what matters is these people has vision and guts to go ahead with the idea they have. If it works it is great, we need more enterpreneurs in our country. If it doesn't work, it is them who will lose. What upsets you people?? Geeeez ..And btw, those who says it is not "original" idea, whether it is or not , it DOESN'T have to be original idea. Read the most recent Harward Business Review article and you will be surprised some of the biggest businesses like Walmart, McDonald etc were NOT the original ideas. If this business grows in future, and creates more jobs, isn't that good for our country?

Anyways, best wishes to you folks and may you get a lot of success in your new move.

Dear Raj Kamal,

The idea is new to the Indian roads. Besides, I have not seen anybody doing the same thing like providing the news papers.

What we actually see is street children selling news papers and roses at the signals. Also, bare in mind they are not given free but passengers have to pay for it.

Meter Down magazine is an innovative concept of combing OOH media and Print together,

Another important point in this is no other media vehicle provides higher top of mind brand recall vale like the way meter down does. ( we are talking in minutes unlike TV which is for few seconds and Hoarding which is even lesser than that.

In India
by iota on Mar 30, 2010 02:06 PM  | Hide replies

Small scale enterprises (with over 20 employees) are treated by Government License-Raj Inspectors - as if they are running a Drug Syndicate.

Sales Tax, Excise Inspectors, Income Tax Inspectors, Environment Clearance Inspector(for manufacturing units) - will waste so much of your time and money - that you will feel that you have COMMITTED A CRIME by starting a business.

Small Example of this:
If you want to close your business, YOU NEED GOVERNMENT PERMISSION FOR THAT - and how much time it takes is anybody's guess. If you close your business without seeking permission - YOU CAN BE ARRESTED! lol.

So, who is safe?
Small Chaiwalla, Shop Owner, Kirana Store Guy
AND
BIG Businesses.

So, Small Scale industry and its growth is doomed in India.

Hi,

I completely agree with you. Let me reduce the burden of this by a little.

If u have registered as a prvt ltd company then it will cost u big bucks to register and then various things to shut it down.

but on the opposite, proprietorship is less pain taking.

No doubt it is a innovative idea now it all depends how you make it a business sense..your business plan, marketing, venture capitalist, moving to other cities & towns, hassles of auto drivers, ensuring the book is always available etc...

Hello Praveen Kumar,

I agree it is an challenge to scale up, but we were confident to start and we are confident for the future. 'an entrepreneur draws its own limit'.

Thanks,
Mulchand

Difficulties of entrepreneurship in India
by swami pudipeddi on Mar 30, 2010 01:20 PM

Lot of red tapism is there in every office where some control is given by the Government. In fact Govt. should open up a e numbering system. The entrepreneur should be able to obtain the required number/identification by downloading and then forwarding it for the information of the concerned authority who should be deemed to have accorded permission for the sought after activiity if no clarification or objection raised during the next thirty days after recipt of the material from the entrepreneur. Government offices do not extend help unless some one co-ordinates. this system should go and entrepreneurs are encouraged to start the desired legal business and create employmnet/wealth to the nation.
