I just cant digest when it is said that Murthy could not join IIT because his father could not afford the fees. Then how did he graduate from the National Engg. College in Mysore. No fees there?

Those were the days of subsidized tution fees. B Tech tutions fees in IITs and several other govt. engg colleges were about the same. A measly 240 Rs pa. But, believe it or, not many could afford even these owing to low family incomes and a larger number of dependents (4 to 5 children was almost a norm at the time). Although it was rather easy to get into an IIT, it was difficult to stick to an IIT and complete the degree as IITs used to chuck out failed students. With hostel and mess charges annual expenses would shoot about 2000 Rs pa or higher - out of reach for most parents. It was much cheaper to stay at home and attend an engineering as a day scholar. No problem because the standard of education in all reputed engineering institutes was comparable to that in IITs.
Hi, It is not necessary that study only makes people perfect. If you are talented then in any field you can go hight and you can take India on high and higher.Take example of so many people in past and present who are not having basic education but they have wriiten the history whom we can not forget. Its not only Ifosys guy but we have many people in India.Only the thing Narayan murthy has hit the bol at very right time and it clicked.
Narayana Murthy name is spelt incorrectly as 'Narayana Muthy: The IT czar of middle-class dreams' and also one of the lines says - 'He was short, but sharp' nonsense, how can you write such comments.... would appreciate if the author takes proper care of words.....
Narayana Murthy is a real giant when compared to other people mentioned in the article. What he achieved in a country like Hindia is none less than a miracle.

Any ideas how well educated Dhirubhai is and was he really a brilliant student in the class??? If I am not mistaken, he isn't really educated by 12th grade!!!
What is the neccesity of mentioning Narayana Murthy's caste here? I don't think he himself like this. Avoid using castes. It is shame for humanity and his own religion's principles.

Indians are not at all rascist. So it's not a problem to mention caste at every possible opportunity.
CAn't even spell Narayana Murthy....casted as MUTHY.Where is India going???? Only few individuals who are sent out of India or treated in India as Forward caste are shining. Keep that in mind.

I pity on your knowledge. What about B.R.Ambedkar, K.R.Narayanan, etc... More than education, honesty does the matter. None of you Aryans has the honesty of thinking everybody as equal.

Indians are wondeful people who treat everyone equally irrespective of caste, creed and social status. It's the Aussies who are the problem on earth.

pls give an example of who dropped out of school and made it big? And I am sure you will say Bill Gates. But FYI, Bill Gates did not drop out of school. He dropped out of Harvard university where he was studying for his MBA. There is a world of difference.
