Those days 1993, India had only 5 IITs & craze & competition was much more than what it is today. I feel today the craze has phased out. It is not an exam that one can crack doing an 11th hr fire fighting.Main difference between IIT JEE & board exams is that they are conceptual rather than trivial & prototyped. It is for those who have done a planned study.
Tip: Do not do any of last minute reading especially new fundas. Try to relax yourself & eat light; Preferably juices before exam. Do not leave anything to God.

yup...competition has decreased..thanks to the awareness that not only engg is a career option....life has much more to offer than IIT/IIM. Now people have started looking for careers in the fields which were unheard of a few years back...great news...

Dont get bogged down by terror tactics used by big coaching centers while conducting mock tests. Many of those questions are MSc level and never ever will come for JEE. So be thorough with the basics, practice realistic questions and just be confident ! Best of Luck
