To get nobel u have to be genius & innovative.
JEE is just a competitive exam & every yr 5,000 suceeds depending on how is ur prepration & some luck.
Clearing JEE is not the only way of determining intelligence.
All nobel prize winners of india(only 7 till now), top scientists, abdul kalam, Dhirubai ambani, kurien, Sreedharan etc didn'y study in IIT but they are much superior to any IIT student.
In India IIT is given too much unnecessary hype. Please note that IIT is one of the good institution, most of IItians are intelligent, but it doesn't mean that rest are not intelligent. There are millions of other people in india who are equaly or more intelligent & also doing better in life.
So simply treat IIT as one of the good institute & no need of any overhyping.
In fact due to over hype IIT coudlnot produce any significant scientific breakthru compared to any top university of developed countries. If u see output of IIT , its just a waste. Simply tough entrance exam (beacuse of large population of india) doesn't make a good engineer who can innovate thing.

Money

When your money ends your world ends. Only Money is required in this world. side by side you can try IIT,JEE, TOFELL,CA,CS etc etc. Even for education you need ample of money then only you can appear for big exams. Engineering/MBBS is not a common mans cup of tea now days even if his child gets good marks, he has to make money arrangements for his/her admission.

ya amrit.i duly agree with your wording.its money at all which keeps you growing and giving continous pleasurable feeling not JEE.so if you can crack it its so good otherwise there are so many other ways to earn good money and have that feeling. Finally JEE is not the end of life road.

The IIT JEE
by ravi prakash on Mar 20, 2010 10:49 AM  | Hide replies

The IIT JEE is unique because it tests not only one's understanding but also one's persistence and continuous effort. More than the end result it is the experience of sitting at the JEE in all seriousness that one imbibes what it takes to really succeed at what one is good at.
First and foremost do not be obsessed with the result ( getting into the IIT). Planning is important. Planning should not be restrictive but cover the entire portion. Plan in such a way that you attain confidence in the subject and not a mere dhobi mark item. It is more importance to find the requisite confidence.
Then get on with the study, topic by topic, subtopic by subtopic, till you have covered every subject in detail.
Solve all kinds of problems. It is important to perfect the process of solving the problem. Past papers, text book problems. Plan to do at least a minimum specified number of problems as a habit.
Like the Marathon, the JEE tests endurance, so just as important to build the sinews and lung capacity it is important to increase the resilience of the mind for the exam.
The subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics all have similar characteristics. They have fundamental principles and then subtle variations based on these fundamental principles that makes the subject appear complex. Once one has grasped the fundamentals and the various shades of meanings then identifying, the problem with the method to solve the problems becomes an easy affair.
Best wishes

IIT is outdated. Most research and innovation is happening outside India ..not in IIT's.

Just because you can solve problems in maths ,physics and chemistry on paper doesn't mean you will become a great engineer.

engineering is based on physics, chemistry & maths, whether IIT or no IIT you must know these, you cant become engineer by DANCING on the floor, even to become doctor you must learn physics & chemistry,to learn these 3 subjects on must have serious application of mind,if you couldnot learn these subjects , dont give negative comments, you can choose other career

I agree with U mr VS.
IIT is simply overhyped in India(more so in north India).
Only tough entrance exam(taht also due to large population & less opportunity in north India) doesn't make any institute great.
No significant scientific or enginnering discovery from IIT till now after 50 yrs of existence. No need to quote some name who is doing better in US (as it is due to their education system). Also lot of non IItians also doing equally good in US.
So stop hyping it & just treat it like a good institue of India.

IITs are not what they are made out to be. They are no doubt the best in the country and way ahead of the rest. but it ends there. There are a few faculty members there too who r unfit to bve even school teachers.
All the teachers r not great. And IITs don't come anywhere near the likes of MIT or Berkeley.
They don't have a decent PG programme or reserach programme.

I know it from my 1st hand experience having been an IIT student.

so answer my question. what inventions have come out of IITs ?

Nothing special about IIT.
by V S on Mar 20, 2010 10:34 AM  | Hide replies

It's over rated exam and is out of tune with reality.

you don't need to know physics , chem and maths to do well in life.

it is special,no doubt ! so dont get frustrated if you are not selected, because it is not the end of the world ,but give it a sincere try to get into it, NO HARM in trying for the BEST ,but dont loose heart, there are equally good opportunity's ahead

Adreed that it is an over rated exam. But once you are through, you are over and above the rest of folks. Clearing JEE is just a path to success and not a Key! You can do well in life even if you haven't been to any of the IIT campuses.

I have been to IIT campus..in delhi..It's nothing compared to even an average US university. I have to wonder if IIT is another white elephant which produces more DRDO scientists.

Somewhat true....
Life and career options have changed drastically in last few years...thanks to wide spread awareness on different aspects of careers which were unknown a few years back...
Being at IIT does helps in life but you can be more successful otherwise as well...

Mr Injun- IIT is not the only way of defining intelleigence.
Please note that Abdul kalam, Kurien, sreedharan, Mukesh ambani(He left IIT & joined UDCT mumbai) didn't study in IIT. There are much more intelligent people than any one in country & also a big achiever.
IIT is a great engineering college, thats all. Not the way u people define it - as if only IITians are intelligent.
I know there are many in south/west India who didn't bother about IIT & doing better in life.
Also many people failed in IIT(1st attempt), joined other college & doing better than many of IItains later. Just clearing one entrance exmam is not the only test of intelligence. I know many guys in Bihar clears the test after 3 attempt. Does it mean he is better than others .

No I didn't but then I saw my friends from IIT. They may be marginally better technically but I think they are worse off in most other areas.

I repeat that IIT's are overhyped , over rated and out of tune with today's reality.
